Aston Expressway

They think it doesn't apply to them!

These are people who are far too important to be bothered by petty things like speed limits.

I was once tailgated by a 4x4 driver along narrow country roads. When I turned right onto a main road he overtook me on the right hand side of a keep left bollard.

When they cause as accident it is the other people they hurt that I feel sorry for.

I believe that fines are to be imposed for tailgating and for hogging the middle lanes on motorways. The trouble is that they probably won't be imposed very often so will have no effect. I still see a lot of people on their phones while driving in big conurbations.

At least there were police around to catch them. [gotcha] emoticon
Like Frank I am frequently overtaken when I am driving at the speed limit, but alas no police or speed cameras ever seem to be in evidence.

We were on the motorway yesterday and trying to work out just who would qualify as a middle lane hogger [even more difficult when there are 4 lanes ]. Given the number of lorries on the motorways these days it's often difficult to be in the inside lane and I always try to be in the middle lane appraching a slip road. But there's nothing to stop the police fining people for being on a phone whilst driving; not only is it obvious but they would be able to prove that the phone was being used at that time. There's a small road island near where I live where all the local people stay in the outside lane [although technically we should move to the inside lane] but it's much safer staying in the lane you're on as traffic is approaching it very fast having just pulled off the motorway. Sometimes a bit of common sense is needed.

I was taught (OK maybe erroneously) to stay in the middle lane going past a service station to allow traffic joining the motorway and also going through a junction for the same reason. Right? or not?

What freaks me out is seeing people joining a motorway and then immediately going into the middle and then the outside lane. We saw a white van do it yesterday and the driver must have had limited all round vision.

It's a matter of judgement, g'mum. I don't use the M6 as often as I once did, since I've taken to going south by train, but it was almost impossible to get into the inside lane because of all the HGVs using it and then when I was virtuous enough to drive in it I found it almost impossible to get out again to pass a line of slow-moving lorries.

Anno that's my problem on the M5 when I drive to Gloucester to visit DD.

Don't get me started on people using their phones while driving - it's something that really makes me mad! I see it a lot on a roundabout near a local supermarket - I have lost count of the times I have seen lorry drivers negotiate the roundabout with one hand on the steering wheel and with a phone in the other. I did mention it to a policeman but he didn't seem that interested.

I think the Aston Expressway is driving people mad this weekend.
For anybody who does not know it the Aston Expressway is like a motorway.
I was astonished to see a car do a u turn on the expressway.
There were no police around but I hope the incident has been caught on camera.
I was well away from it but an accident was nearly caused on the opposite carriageway.
I am not bothered about the nutter who did the u turn getting injured but I am concerned for the other drivers and passengers he put in danger.
