Petronella Wyatt is lamenting the "chavication" of Royal Ascot and changes of which "her friend" the late Queen Mother would not have approved. Then, she does that pathetic show-off thing "My father, Lord Wyatt..." However, I am quite certain that if there hadn't been a lordship to flaunt, she would not have written "My father, Mr Wyatt..." She is writing about things at Ascot being so non-U nowadays (the use of Nancy Mitford's term in my original post was deliberate and ironic) while displaying a remarkable level of snobbery herself that is, of course, socially unacceptable or non-U.
