I remember a lot of shock! horror! at Henley in the 60's when girls were turning up in mini skirts, and then there was the furore in Australia when Jean Shrimpton went to the races in a mini skirt and no tights. Nothing much seems to have changed My mother was convinced that it was the end of civilisation as we knew it when Princess Diana was seen at official engagements with bare legs!

She would have just said "Woodrow Wyatt" if he wasn't a sir. She just wanted people to know who she was referring to.That's not snobby. It's sensible.

Then, she does that pathetic show-off thing "My father, Lord Wyatt..." However, I am quite certain that if there hadn't been a lordship to flaunt, she would not have written "My father, Mr Wyatt..." She is writing about things at Ascot being so non-U nowadays (the use of Nancy Mitford's term in my original post was deliberate and ironic) while displaying a remarkable level of snobbery herself that is, of course, socially unacceptable or non-U.

It's difficult to know where to start with such a boring snob. How very non-U to begin a sentence with "My father, Lord Wyatt..." I can't imagine Nancy Mitford (or the Duchess of Devonshire who gets a mention, although it may not have been the Mitford one) making such a social faux pas. It's rather on the same level as Julian Fellowes.
