OH , That is soooooooooooo right , some people think they can say anything under the guise of "Being Right "

absent Sun 07-Jul-13 20:47:10

There is really no excuse for rudeness - whether in a supermarket or on Gransnet.

petallus Sun 07-Jul-13 14:00:31

I've just read the article in the Mail and now I know the full details I consider the check out person was amazingly rude, even bullying.

Maggiemaybe Sun 07-Jul-13 13:46:10

Blimey, there are some vicious comments out there about Bartoli - as usual on t'interweb, turn up a stone and the creepy-crawlies rush out. It's worrying to think that many of them will pass as "normal" people in the real world.

Inverdale's reaction to the criticism of him is a bit odd. A simple sorry would have sufficed (she seems a very commonsense sort and wasn't a bit fazed by his remark), but no, he has to compound the slip by saying "She is an incredible role model for people who aren't born with all the attributes of natural athletes". What are they then - blonde locks, shiny teeth and Barbie legs?

Greatnan Sun 07-Jul-13 13:33:44

I don't look at twitter - I have more than enough to keep my happy with Gransnet and three ex-pat forums!
Plus Facebook.

I'd like to see a customer try and talk on their mobile phone in Aldi. They throw the shopping at you so quickly you'd need to be an octopus to manage a phone call as well.

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 10:19:43

Actually GN, most people would have been able to get their head round that.

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 10:18:17

Oh there is a lot more to it than John Inverdale' s remark. (Did you see the mention of Twitter GN?) confused

I was inviting posters to make comparisons. Perhaps thereby getting some perspective.

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 10:15:13

Don't worry about it Bags. grin

Greatnan Sun 07-Jul-13 10:14:38

Bags, she is a French tennis player and won the Women's singles yesterday. John Inverdale made a very rude and sexist remark about her looks and many people are complaining to the BBC about him. It has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread!

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 10:13:49

I totally agree with that post of Aka' s!

Sorry Ana!

Bags Sun 07-Jul-13 10:12:09

Who's Marion Bartoli? I thought the rude customer was called Jo Somebody.

Ana Sun 07-Jul-13 10:04:45

Jingl, don't forget me! smile

Aka Sun 07-Jul-13 09:46:25

Ah ha! hmm
I'm delighted to find you are still talking to me. But very confused as to why my last post provoked the reaction it did?
However, I'm off into the garden so would invite you to PM me so we can continue this discussion away from open forum, if you wish.

What's that arcade game called where all the little heads pop out and you are supposed to bash them down with a rubber mallet?
Never mind. Time to moon

Aka Sun 07-Jul-13 09:26:04

Well that's me told isn't it!
I'd invite other GNetters (reasonable or unreasonable!) to read my last post and explain what When has taken offence to.
I'd prefer to ask her myself but she's not speaking to me!

whenim64 Sun 07-Jul-13 09:21:59

Aka from now on I shall ignore your posts. You are one of the unreasonable, impolite people I was thinking of.

petallus Sun 07-Jul-13 09:20:41

Who cares about the customer? Not me. I've been infuriated by this particular kind of rudeness myself whilst standing in a queue behind someone who chatted constantly whilst packing and paying.

However, if I were the cashier's employer I might not be all that happy. I would want staff who could rise above customers' rudeness and deal with it in a firm but polite manner.

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 09:16:12

Why don't you all go on Twitter and read some of the ugly things that are being said about Marion Bartoli. It might give you some perspective of what is truly rude.

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 09:12:16

That was a coward' s wink. I am ashamed of it. grin

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 09:11:11

I wonder if Waitrose customers would be bothering to discuss at such length, something so comparatively unimportant. shock wink

grin

Aka Sun 07-Jul-13 09:09:44

When please consider how your choice of words 'reasonable Gransnetters' can be read. You are implying that those who disagree are 'unreasonable'. I don't think this is the case.
You were very quick to say 'it's starting up again' yet...

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 09:07:34

grin Funnily, there seems to be only me and Sel who are the unreasonable gransnetters.

Funny too, how petulant GNers can become when anyone disagrees with them. grin

whenim64 Sun 07-Jul-13 09:02:12

It's good to see the public (and reasonable Gransnetters) standing up to say they are on the side of being polite and courteous, whatever position you are in. The customer isn't always right - we have consumer rights, but we don't have the right to be rude to others without facing the osequences.

That checkout assustant might have been a little tactless in her dealings with the rude cstomer, but I'm glad to see she has been so well supported.

Bags Sun 07-Jul-13 09:01:43

I think you're right, jings. Their ruling 'principle' is to keep the majority of customers on side.
