What do you call your spare bedroom?

One of my brothers calls his spare room 'the guest bedroom' but we call ours (we have two) 'the front bedroom' and 'the back bedroom'. My other brother calls his 'the junk room'. What do you call yours?

The computer room: houses the printer /ironing board/dryer/ sofa bed
The kids room: houses all the DGC toys/books and they sleep there when they stay
The spare bedroom: Double bed/wardrobes and bookshelves

I was touched to find that my daughter's spare room in NZ is known as 'Nan's room'.

At the moment I can only call it the Junk Room - but perhaps we will sort it out eventually hmm

My children call it "Granny's room" even though she died in 2004.

Same as Movedalot. All our bedrooms are at the front.

Our house is very strange because you can only access the spare room by going through the bathroom. We call it the Miss Havisham Suite because someone could be in there for years an we would never know. Perhaps it should be renamed the Lord Lucan suite grin

Blue room (double), green room (double), guest room (double), seaside room (small), attic room (huge).
They never seem to be 'spare' very often and only one is actually empty at the moment. grin

Grumps love it but don't leave the matches out. We extended this house twenty five years ago so the spare bedroom is called the new room.

The junk room grin

Spare.

feetlebaum Fri 05-Jul-13 09:08:21

I never talk to my spare room...

Movedalot Fri 05-Jul-13 09:55:59

How often do you all go in these 'spare' rooms? I have a friend who used to put pot plants in hers so she had to go in and water them. I only go in when friends have left and I need to change the beds or when friends are coming and I dust etc. We never have 'guests' can't be bothered with them, just friends.

2 named after 2 children, who briefly occupied them when we first moved here - and the lilac room, for obvious reasons.

We still call them by our children's names e.g. Chris' bedroom, they still return home and use them.

kittylester Fri 05-Jul-13 16:58:40

Movedalot I'm impressed that you go and change the bedding when friends leave. I don't just in case they are also the next visitors. grin

We leave the doors to the spare rooms open as we love the decoration!

We don't have guests either - mostly family and grandchildren and friends.

kitty you have made me think about decorating the bedrooms ..we moved her 2 years ago and re-modelled and extended downstairs. We slapped a bit of paint in our bedroom as the existing colour clashed with our bed cover! But I was so relieved to have got rid of dust and the smell of paint that I have not got round to thinking about upgrading the 'spare ' rooms..but I should! Autumn project!!

kittylester Fri 05-Jul-13 19:40:01

nanaej we love the way the rooms are decorated because we rearranged upstairs to accommodate the changing needs of our family and then had the chance to chose for ourselves rather than having to tolerate the children's choices. grin

My sewing room.

My room.

Marelli Fri 05-Jul-13 21:03:45

The wee room. It has a bed in it that I go to when OH snores. grin

nanaej Fri 05-Jul-13 21:56:10

kitty I agree..I enjoy planning and designing a new space... i want to swap the 'kids' room and the 'computer' room over so will have to project manage that!

Greatnan Sat 06-Jul-13 14:59:12

The bedroom. It is spare because I prefer to sleep on my comfortable settee in the living room. Good job I own my flat and it is in France, otherwise I might have to downsize to the balcony.

betsysgran Sat 06-Jul-13 16:04:47

Marelli Can you not persuade OH to go to the spare bedroom? It's what I do when Betsysgrandad snores too much. Mind you its more of a kick than persuasion!! I can still hear him sometimes though and we don't have thin walls!!

wisewoman Sat 06-Jul-13 21:40:38

Like you marelli I call it the wee bedroom and escape there when the snoring begins. In hay fever season when it is particularly bad, OH just goes to sleep there to save me moving in the night.

Greatnan Sun 07-Jul-13 07:33:04

Movedalot - I hope my relatives and other guests are also my friends! I can't imagine inviting anybody to stay who was not!
I always change the bedding after each guest leaves and I have to go into the room quite often as I use the space under the bed to store jig-saws, my roller skates, and the packaging of various items, as you cannot return anything faulty in France unless you have the original packaging.
