As the saying goes, "You can put a cat in the oven but it still don't make a biscuit". They can call the day Margaret Thatcher but it still won't make me a Tory.

What a thought! Would have to hide somewhere, or take a day trip to France to avoid it.

As long as the box doesn't have a spare bedroom - oh, no that's the new lot's idea!

A hovel? Surely you mean a cardboard box, Tegan. And pay poll tax into the bargain.

noodles Sat 06-Jul-13 13:00:32

All of the above I think.

Tegan Sat 06-Jul-13 12:42:48

No; sit and starve in a hovel and beat ouselves with sticks would be more appropriate [imo]. Or, have a huge bike ride a la Norman Tebbitt

What on earth are we supposed to DO? Listen to eighties music, rifle our wardrobes for shoulder pads and dance around wearing Spitting Image face masks? hmm

annodomini Sat 06-Jul-13 12:18:28

We could have Thatcher statues, decorated like the Grommit ones in Bristol.

Tegan Sat 06-Jul-13 11:55:56

I think it would improve the productivity of the country no end in that a lot of people [me included] would have to ignore it and go into work that day.

Greatnan Sat 06-Jul-13 10:52:48

Please, ladies, be sensitive - we have some devout Thatcher fans on GN!

Nice to have somewhere to vent frustration and chuck tomatoes, I suppose?

I think a bronze statue in every town and city would be nice too don't you? And would no doubt regenerate local economies as peasants flocked to pay homage and leave garlands of flowers.
And rename every high street "Thatcher Street" and rename Wembley Stadium the Thatcher stadium and what about the Albert Hall - time for a name change to the Margaret Hall?
I think we should call August bank holiday Mo Farah day. Still have to pinch myself that he got those 2 gold medals when a small group of other nationalities had been dominating both events for an awful long time.

Ariadne Sat 06-Jul-13 09:46:52

I don't think it's a wind up - I checked before I posted, and his comments indicate he is serious!

j08 Sat 06-Jul-13 09:46:17

Smacks of old USSR.

JessM Sat 06-Jul-13 09:41:04

is it a wind up ariadne ? sounds like it might be time to emigrate. Only going as far as wales - but I can't imagine it would be a winner there.

j08 Sat 06-Jul-13 09:18:49

And he's getting paid for that?!! hmm

Ariadne Sat 06-Jul-13 09:16:15

Did anyone else hear about the proposition, in Parliament, to make the August Bank Holiday Monday Margaret Thatcher day? It had its second reading the other day, but the proposer ran out of time. grin

Apparently he is a member of a group of MPs who also want to privatise the BBC...
