I have never used this supermarket as there has never been a branch near where I live.

What are they going to call themselves ?

There is a branch if Morrisons not far from my place of work and it is very convenient for me to pop in on my way home or at lunch time. I find their fresh fruit and vegetables to be of very good quality and their meat and fish are always fresh and good too. I wasn't aware that they were changing their name though.

I think it was only a temporary, local change to Murrisons during Wimbledon fever...hmm

Me neither , GILLY, we already have a branch slightly out of town .

However , they will opening a new one about a 5 minute walk from us so we are pleased , as I like the stuff they sell .

ANA . I like it !!

If they are good they should open a branch in Sutton Coldfield.

I thought they were a Scottish company (but I might be wrong) maybe that's why?

Nonu Mon 08-Jul-13 21:49:59

Not a big enough place !

Ana Mon 08-Jul-13 21:50:44

Quite likely, Frank...smile

Northern I believe , first came across them in Scarborough several years back.

I saw a picture and it was 'Murriwins' confused

Ana Mon 08-Jul-13 22:08:33

Yes - just googled and they've now changed it again to that, Ella!

They started in Bradford. I first came across them when I was at university there, many years ago.

gracesmum Mon 08-Jul-13 23:11:28

I rather like that! (Murriwins, I mean!) smile

Morrisons started in Bradford and until quite recently was still a family owned company smile

Nonu I love my Morrisons we are lucky enough to have a big superstore on the front at New Brighton and a smaller Express type shop further into town I must say they do have some nice garden plants and their house flowers are always fresh and stay good for 7/10days.

I am always amazed at the range of super markets people have available to them. I live in southern Oxfordshire and within a 20 mile range the only supermarkets we have access to are Tesco, Sainsbury and Waitrose.

This doesn't bother me as I find large supermarkets boring and time-consuming. This is not a sign of incipient (arrived?) old age. I decided when DC were teenagers that life was too short to spend a second more than necessary in a large supermarket when I could do a weeks shopping in a smaller supermarket in half the time and still able to buy all the products I wanted.

And even faster online! Cannot be bothered traipsing round for ordinary, everyday stuff!

We are a small town but have large Tesco, Aldi, Co-op all walking distance of the High St. We will in the next few weeks have an out of town Morrisons opening.
10miles away is Sainsburys, Aldi, Asda, Morrisons and a Tesco Express.

Slight over kill I think !!

FlicketyB Tue 09-Jul-13 13:56:25

Oh, yes we do have Co-ops. one in the village but they are all convenience shop size.

When I started using smaller shops there was no internet and I must confess that even though I plan menus and shop to a list I do like to choose my own fruit and veg based on what they have in stock and what looks nice and sometimes I am looking for a certain size or shape of fruit. Last week I want out and carefully chose one, as cylindrical as possible, carrot because I wanted to grate it for a salad and didn't want any left over.

I would not buy fresh food online, I must confess. It gives me a great excuse to potter around the town and vist the green grocer etc. (Butcher only when I have to - as a vegetarian I hate the smell. Ditto the fishmonger.) And all the other nice little shops too!

Ariadne precisely.
