I often feed the chickens in my pyjamas. I water the plants and then make myself a cup of tea before having a shower. Our postie usually arrives at 8.30 and I don't think he's ever seen me in clothes. blush

The winter routine is similar but with Barbour jacket over the PJs and no plants to water.

When we lived in a remote cottage in Cornwall one of our neighbours opened the door to the postman in the nude. He was in such a state of shock that another neighbour had to take him in and revive him with strong tea! Just as well he didn't know the woman's sideline was posing for pornographic photo's grin

Does this sort of thing happen in Emmerdale/

Glad I don't live in a village if that's the sort of thing they gossip about.

Have you not seen a lot of young girls think nothing of going out in their Hugh rollers. Well they do down here.

Movedalot Tue 16-Jul-13 19:20:34

I think it may depend on how you look if you ignore your hair Mishap. If I let nature take its course I would frighten a lot of people! grin

I do admire those who take the trouble to use such things as rollers - I too thought they were a thing of the past. I do not care enough about what I look like to be prepared to suffer for it! - just too darned lazy! Well done is all I can say!

Velcro rollers are marvellous.
I agree that Sod's Law means that on the one morning when you decide not to get dressed early, someone is guaranteed to ring the bell early. Etc.
So, maybe the answer is the nice Kaftan idea above, or a very nice dressing gown.
I bought a lovely silky one recently for the summer, with a pretty bird patttern, in a well known cheap shop beginning with 'P'. And it was only £6. (not sure if we are allowed to mention shop names here).
I shall be proud to answer the door bell in it.... but no one has done so yet..
just when I WANT to show off my new silky garment! (another Sod's law!)
(But I hope I am not wearing my velcro rolllers when they do!!!! What do you bet though!!!!)

Mind you this has reminded me of the very first time I saw my dear old Grannie without her usual 'armour' on. Hair in curlers, no teeth, no corset no make-up and just a nightie......she had popped her head around the door to see why I was still up late (when I stayed with her as a teenager she let me choose my own bed time....oh the joy). Was quite a shock bless her!

HildaW Tue 16-Jul-13 14:51:44

Sunseeker ....sounds a lot like mine, but since its mostly grey now it does seem a little thicker. I spent my 20s using curling tongs but after babies I kept it quite short (it never grew that long anyway). Nowadays I am not nearly so vain about it......my aim is to just be a smart (ish) version of what I am naturally and I no longer worry about what's fashionable....tis quite liberating.

I happily answer the door in what pass for 'lounging pjs' and the postman/delivery men don't bat an eye!
I suppose that means at least I'm not too frightening! grin

My next door neighbour, thinks nothing of sauntering up the road in his d/gown and slippers and I did see him in boxers and t shirt once going to his car, parked across the road.

Movedalot Tue 16-Jul-13 13:58:52

Oh sorry sunseeker that was tactless of me.

My hair is the same, looks terrible unless just washed so now I have it really short and use one of the gas hot brushes. Doesn't take long and is easy.

kittylester Tue 16-Jul-13 13:42:13

Our 'sort of grandson' often pops in to say hello on his way to school and delights in catching me with my hair on end while it dries! He even brought some friends round to show them what I look like. Foiled him though, I was going out and had already hotbrushed it! grin

sunseeker Tue 16-Jul-13 13:22:10

Hilda, wish I didn't have to use rollers but my hair is bone straight and very fine, hot brushes and the like just don't work!

Wish I could send DH to the door Moved but he died almost 2 years ago.

Movedalot Tue 16-Jul-13 12:53:07

I just send DH to the door! grin

HildaW Tue 16-Jul-13 12:48:54

Am greatly impressed you still use rollers......thought they had passed into history!
I am a bit slow to get going in the mornings and loathe the idea of being seen in a dressing gown so I use an all enveloping kaftan that encases me modestly and does not embarrass any delivery types who might arrive early.

Movedalot Tue 16-Jul-13 12:18:28

And they will all be jealous that they can't do it. smile

sunseeker Tue 16-Jul-13 11:25:03

My usual routine is to be up, breakfasted, showered and dressed by 9.00 a.m. This morning decided I would get up later, have a leisurely breakfast before having my shower and getting dressed, as a result at 10.00 a.m. I was still in my dressing gown, hair in rollers and no make-up. Sod's law my neighbours' cleaner knocked on my door and wouldn't go away, I thought about not answering but as all the windows were open impossible to pretend I was out. It will now be all round the village that I slob around the house in my dressing gown all day!
