Sounds like a lovely, happy (exhausting) day thistledoo . You really can't go wrong with a bit of splashing can you ? Lunch sounded lovely too and my three grandchildren adore corn on the cob with a lovely dollop of Lurpak. Yummy.

Thank you Gillybob, took your advice and filled up the paddling pool just with a couple of inches, small newly walking DGD wanted to join in with everything, but they had marvellous fun running about in the garden all day. Cooked fish fingesr for lunch with corn on the cob, followed by a big ice cream cone, eaten in the wendy house. Naughty granny followed with a little bag of chocolate button, hoping mummies did not come early to see the mess. Temps were fine, no chance of heat exhaustion here so all in a really lovely day. Good to see parents though.

Good afternoon everyone from me - started off a bit dull but still hot - thought we were getting a storm a short while ago - we had thunder but nothing else and the sun has come back.

Probably, Sook, my old boss, whose wife was Spanish told me that was why they had the windows opening inward, and the shutters; certainly sounds sensible for hot countries, not thought of your ideas they seem good too.

Good afternoon. My curtains are closed on the south side all windows and French doors to the garden wide open, interior doors wide open too, to let the air flow through.

PRINTMISS I love the idea of shutters I would imagine they help keep the heat inside during winter and an excellent burglar deterrent?

Water Thistledoo it always works for my three. Ideally a paddling pool but I have often filled buckets, bowls and squirty bottles they are happy.

Beautiful morning here on the bonnie Moray Firth, temps a good bit lower than down in the deep south, but wonderfully bearable. Needless to say will be lapping it up. Waiting for delivery of DGD aged 5 to be closely followed by her cousins, 1 year old DGD and very rowdy 3 year old DGS, all of whom I will be looking after today. Not sure what to do with them as cant get them all in the car with the respective car seats. Any suggestions? Have a good day everyone.

Heard that on Sunday, Nellie, local Am- Dram group perfomed the whole work, part of our festival. Amazingly well done in a very hot theatre!

They abandoned the outdoor performance as several members of the cast collapsed in the heat during Saturday's performance... phew!

I'm off to Longford Castle today to learn about paintings there, thank goodness for aircon in my car.

Security measures very tight, no loo visits allowed, carry a small purse and take photographic eveidence of who you are......must be very special!!!

Lovely morning. I'm going on a U3A day course which starts at Stockport College and continues at Jodrell Bank. I will need plenty of sunscreen and gallons of water.

Open the windows on the shady side of the house and close curtains or blinds on the sunny sides. It does help. Like most of France and similar European places don't let the sun in.
Trouble is in the UK such heatwaves are a novelty.

I can never understand why aircon systems never seem to be controlled by thermostat and are always far too cold for comfort. Shops etc are very bad.

Going to be hot here but I'm off to Newport again where the a/c is set to -20C.

Set to be a really hot one again today in the East Midlands. I have just gone round and opened every window possible!

Yes hot here too, closing curtains a good idea, but what is really needed is shutters on the outside of the windows to stop the sun getting through the glass. I noticed when we were abroad occasionlly that there windows open inward, so that the shutters could be closed and air filtered through. I do no think our summers are going to be constantly hot enough however for us to re-design our homes! Enjoy you days everyone.

Good morning Michael and everyone. Very hot and sticky here on the North East Coast too. Oh don't shut the sunshine out Michael you need to try and get as much sunshine as you can as the Autumn and Winter will be here sooner than you can imagine. I am fortunate to have windows front and back so try to keep them open (whilst I am in the house) to let the air flow through. Also a fan is a good idea to get some air moving around even if it is warm air.
