My DD and DGD are doing Race for Life today Frank but not in your neck of the woods! They are running on Southsea promenade (5K) so I am glad it is a bit fresher today and not as hot. Good luck to everyone running today.

I was up at 2.00 and no one was around....

I hope your DD and DGD did their 5k without any problems.
We had no incidents first aid wise.
I enjoy going to assist at Race for Life but a I just wish my late wife was among the runners. She tended to run at 1 event a year and volunteer at about 6.

There are a lot of Funny fellers and lasses who get up at an unearthly hour to organise the course and to put equipment up.
My wife and myself managed to raise about £1,500 per year for CRUK between us when we worked in London but I can not raise that money now.
On the happy side however somebody took over from us at our work places so CRUK is still getting its money.

Were you at the MAC at Cannon Hill, Frank? My DD and a group of friends did the race today in memory of one of their friends who died just 3 weeks ago, leaving 2 little ones. It will have been a very emotional morning for them all.They raised over £1000 plus the Gift Aid, too, but more than anything I think Race for Life is a statement that as the publicity says "Cancer, we are coming to get you", a fantastic way of raising awareness and a gesture of solidarity to sufferers and their families and friends alike.

My daughter did it last week. She'd aimed to do it in 30 minutes and had been training for a few weeks [not having done any serious running since school days] but then came down with a virus a couple of days before the race. She still turned up on the day meaning to walk it if needs be, but started to feel a bit better just efore the off and actually did it in 30 minutes 7 seconds. Little grandson read the 'cancer, we are coming to get you' signs and said [in a very worried voice] 'does that mean if you run the race you get cancer?'. He was reassured that mum would be ok. She and her friends raised close on £2,000 but I agree with gracesmum it is about much more than raising money.

I was at the MAC today.
Every Race for Life is emotional to me as my late wife ran in Race for Life a few times and I always wish she was with the women taking part or amongst the volunteers.
I think one good statements which was said at previous Race for Life's was cancer has won several battles but has not won the war.
I am doing my contribution to winning the war against cancer but at my age being realistic it is year to year help because as I get the older the higher the risks are of me suddenly not being able to help.
Cancer Research has got a long way to go and I suspect it will not be completed in my life time but if I is I will switch to something else.
A strange thing happened to one of my friends who got dementia which caused his death.
His will requested that his funeral fund should be given to CRUK so the relatives thought they had better respect his wishes as they could not ask him when dementia set in.
The minister did say he had seen this sort of thing happen a few times before.
