I have started this thread in what I hope will be welcome relief from another poster's incessant whingeing about the royal baby and his extra-curricular activities with the council.
I'm playing doubles with MrA and our friends Joy and Nick.
How are the rest of you all planning to spend the afternoon?
smile

I have been trying to buy summer pyjamas for the GC,really hard as all the winter stock is now in and summer stuff gone. Am getting ready for a week away with the GC and DD. I am now about to do the ironing and get the last of the washing in before the next downpour.crown

I have been cleaning out the study i.e. re-arranging boxes of clutter from one spot to another then I spent most of the afternoon up a ladder endeavouring to put up new curtains in afore mentioned study. Got them up but couldn't manage to fix the screw back into the pole. Never mind; they'll probably fall down over night in which case they will stay down as I have lost the will to live..... hmm

Gorki Tue 23-Jul-13 15:47:33

I'm just off to wash my hair !

Galen Tue 23-Jul-13 15:43:24

I'm looking at a pile of papers. I ought to read them.
I'd rather watch paint dry. Or read Gerry and Frank's threads, I think

Its all excitement here! Took DH to station to get train, will have to collect him later, then moved four barrows of gravel from front garden to back and am now on Gransnet before doing deskwork for the rest of the afternoon.

I think it's because lexicographers at OUP use it. But don't quote me on that!

Galen Tue 23-Jul-13 15:09:40

Why is it Oxford? Should it be renamed Cambridge? But they went to a Scott's one didn't they?

Galen Tue 23-Jul-13 15:08:16

Oh!crown. (Just to annoy Frank)

gracesmum Tue 23-Jul-13 15:00:01

It's what you lapse into from reading too many threads aboutFrank and inheritance/London pensions/rich people and /or Gerrys usual wind-up.grin

It's a comma before the 'and' after the penultimate item in a list. e.g. I'm trying to identify liverworts, mosses, and lichens instead of ...liverworts, mosses and lichens.

Galen Tue 23-Jul-13 14:56:08

So far:- done am tribunal. Paid cheque into bank (from inland revenueshock )
Put mushroom soup on to cook. Assembled ratatouille into slow cooker. Arranged taxis for next 6weeks for work.sorted out post.
Should now be reading papers for tomorrow but CBA!
Putting feet up for 10 mins catching up on GN.

Ps. What's an Oxford comma?

Sook Tue 23-Jul-13 14:00:38

Butty Tue 23-Jul-13 13:37:51

I am going to help a Finnish friend hang a painting loaned to her from a German artist we both know, until her exhibition is up and running in September. Then we'll have coffee, little french strawberry tarts and a lovely natter. smile

Gorki Tue 23-Jul-13 13:00:41

I am going to tidy the grandchildren's bedrooms. They are usually with us on a Tuesday but this week they are on holiday with their parents in Bournemouth. We have withdrawal symptoms !

Jane - I knew that glum feeling came from somewhere - must be a throwback!

janeainsworth Tue 23-Jul-13 12:51:59

Sounds yummy Glamma smile
I like cooking too and had to cater for MrA's sailing club regatta at the weekend. I was dreading it but it all went well and the sailors seemed to enjoy the homecooked food.

harrigran Tue 23-Jul-13 12:50:52

I am going to park my bum on the sofa and watch recorded TV programmes. I need to build up my strength for child minding again tomorrow, Sunday and Monday drained me. I can't believe a seven year old can't play unsupervised for five minutes hmm

Charleygirl Tue 23-Jul-13 12:50:38

janeainsworth Tue 23-Jul-13 12:49:22

Vegasmags Whenever we get a sunny day in June or July I'm reminded of the horrible feeling of having to revise for exams indoors when you'd much rather be out in the sun, even though it's 40 years since I last had to do that.
Or trying to revise outdoors, and failing miserably. I still have bad dreams about it all sad

janeainsworth Tue 23-Jul-13 12:46:20

Perhaps I should have put in an Oxford comma.

vegasmags Tue 23-Jul-13 12:45:45

I am having a dreary old time catching up with all the paperwork I have neglected while the sun shone. I'm sure I'll feel better when it's all done [glum emoticon]
