How many people would not want food in a hotel.

Ariadne. We had a similar experience to you when we went to Paris. We'd never been before, went out late, looking forward to some Parisian cuisine and ended up in a Lebanese restaurant!

I always feel hotels are a waste of money and a B&B is somebody else's home. I like the freedom of not having to be all present and correct for breakfast which I like to eat in my pyjamas so we always pick somewhere cheap and self catering - a caravan will do. It's a bed at the end of a day. We love searching out different places to eat especially if local produce is on the menu.

Apartt from breakfast, we rarely eat in hotels. Just returned from Corfu and did as vegasmags does, part of the fun is trying out a different taverna/restaurant for lunch and dinner.

On Crete, where I have spent many happy holidays, the trend now amongst the big tour operators seems to be to offer all inclusive holidays rather than the traditional room only basis. As one of the great pleasures of holidaying there is to try out a different taverna every night, I wonder how some of them will manage to stay in business now.

Got to give the statins something to do

I do. They just don't taste as good as a Full English.

Whether it's included in the quoted room rate or not, it's the Full English every time for me. Three different ones in a week earlier this month: heaven.

I agree, coffee and toast is enough for breakfast for me and I would hate to be faced with a full English. It is part of the holiday to explore little cafes or restaurants that look appealing.
The hotel is just somewhere where one puts one's head down at night.

It would not be much of a holiday when you have to keep coming back to eat at the Hotel would it? I just like a Hotel as a base to tracel out from on a daily basis and if we travel to a place we like we may even stay over for a night,we hate to be tied down to places and have to conform to times.

The title of this post should be "Who would want to eat all their meals in the same hotel every day for 5 days?" I can't think of anything worse than the (sometimes dreary) sameness of it all. Viva la difference!

I would hate to be bound to have meals in an hotel - if breakfast is inclusive that's fine, but otherwise I like the freedom to choose. Remember ending up in a Polish restaurant in Montreal ( we'd gone out late) and thinking how wonderfully bizarre!

I agree it's common practice in London hotels.
Warner hotels have recently announced that they will no longer be on half board basis. It will change to b&b only. Not a bad thing going on the menus at Corton a couple of weeks ago.

Will Andie be allowed to go though , is the question I have to pose ??

You very seldom get meals included in the prices of London hotels. It's bed only!!

I am quite happy to make my own arrangements sometimes when on holiday it makes the stay much more interesting.

Quite a few Frank. I much prefer to be able to make my own arrangements. Just imagine, you could be walking along by a lovely little harbour, see a restaurant with an appealing menu, then think "Oh, we can't eat there because we have paid for full board/half board (whatever) at the hotel"

I think the majority of people would also be out and about at lunchtime, seeing the sights, relaxing on the beach, walking etc and would not want to go back to the hotel for lunch.

I rather like being free to choose whether or not I eat in a hotel I am staying at.

More interesting to venture out to a little bistro somewhere.

Don't like hotel breakfasts either as I hardly want to eat more than a slice of toast at that time of the morning.
