This weekend has been glorious - summer has returned if only for a few days. I have rubbed down and oiled the teak garden furniture - phew it takes for ever - but I feel good about it. I then took the big 'snippers' to overgrown trees and shrubs and am now left with a huge pile of branches to dispose of - so yet another trip to the tip this week. I had been feeling very low recently what with one thing and another, but all this activity has cheered me up and yesterday my young neighbour brought me a huge box of chocolates and a dvd in an effort to put a smile on my face - wasn't that lovely! Now off for a late lunch/early dinner with friends - hopefully in the garden first

Today we went to see Lottie and her big sister and, when we arrived, they already had visitors - DD3 and her two tots so I'm now exhausted. Lottie looks just like her big sister and her mummy so I'm feeling very proud.

Roast pork for dinner and a night in front of the TV in pjs and dressing gown beckons. [

Today I've been looking after the grandchildren and two rather lovely ducks whilst activist daughter was having her appendix removed. She phoned me last night to say she was feeling unwell, then dialled 111 and was told to take paracetamol. Several hours later she insisted a doctor was called out and he diagnosed appendicitis. Husband and I braved atrocious weather and traffic diversions at 3am to scoot to her house to be there for the children. Daughter now recovering and I'm about to fall into bed and do some recovering of my own. All's well that ends well.

grannya I am pleased that it was dealt with promptly, have a good sleep you sound like you need it.

111 are rubbish. Even a doctor told me that . I'm glad your daughter is now being treated properly grannyactivist. I hope you make a complaint.

Thanks for good wishes. Activist daughter is recovering, but there is an ongoing infection that hasn't yet been overcome by the antibiotics, so no early discharge from hospital and she's fretting to get back to the children. Other granny is on half-term at the moment, so she's coming to stay on Monday and take over for a few days as my son in law can't take time off work just now. She's lovely and will enjoy some time with the children as she lives in London and doesn't get to see them very often. My son's wife is also on half term (good timing huh?) and is ready to help out too.
I've got friends staying at the moment and they're easy guests - just seeing to themselves and being no trouble. Husband is giving a talk this evening so is busy preparing for that, there's a meal before the talk and one of my friends is doing all the catering - and I've been treated to a slap up lunch by my amazingly generous, thoughtful parents in law.

My recent mammogram results arrived this morning. Normal

This has been dormant for a while, for obvious reasons, but here it is again!

Today I am more mobile than I have been for a couple of weeks - had a stronger cortisone injection in the worst knee yesterday and it seems to have almost done the trick. It is wonderful to have got rid of the pain for a while, while I wait for appointments etc.

Actually went into a real shop this morning (rather than a virtual one!) so feeling a little happier.

Ariadne I think one of the worst things about being in constant pain is just how exhausting it is. So glad that you have a bit of relief from it now.

Ariadnehow long is it likely to be ? I hope the steroid injections work until then.
It is very tiring and one reaches the point where it feels it will never get any better than this and, eventually you realise it has.

Pleased to hear that you are feeling some relief Ariadne, I have a 'knee' too and it's not much fun!

That sounds good Ariadne every pain free moment is prescious. I finally had a steroid injection which hit the spot in my hip. After five months I am still enjoying it but couldn't believe just how bad the pain was until it stopped. I am being good with my physio exercises too which has to help. Enjoy every moment

Glad, too that you are feeling a little better in the knee department. Do hope it lasts, as someone else said - pain is really exhausting.

Today I saw my two boys off to school before going into town for a Remembrance service and doing a bit of shopping. I met an elderly gentleman who lives alone and spent a further half hour chatting with him. I came home to find several messages on the answerphone (I'd switched my mobile off) to say that my grandson, who suffers from asthma and has had several trips to hospital in the last year, is unwell again and is waiting to see the doctor with symptoms very similar to when he last had pneumonia. I'm now waiting for a call to let me know how he is. What a difficult few days my daughter's had.
