My (wooden) house name sign is starting to grow a pretty bracket fungus round the edges. I've never seen this phenomenem before, has anyone else?
It looks like pretty frill round the edge.

I mean the sign is wooden, not the house! hmm

You should have been treating it. hmm

Varnish. Of the boat kind.

Or it will rot away...

Galen Tue 06-Aug-13 20:00:46

It was varnished! Marine quality polyurethane varnish. Same as was used on my boat!
I've ordered a brass plate instead! (Haven't told Kate {cleaner} yet as it will have to be polished)
The one I had in practice was phosphor bronze hmm always wanted a brass onegrin

There you are then! The bracket fungus was a blessing in disguise...grin

Horrid stuff. It grew on my patio doors last winter and they rotted away.

Galen Tue 06-Aug-13 20:58:53

The brass one only says house name and number. My phosphor bronze one gave my name and, qualifications!
In case anyone wonders. NO, I AM NOT 'HANGING OUT MY TILE'

Ana Tue 06-Aug-13 21:10:20

confused Is that a euphemism, Galen?

Galen Tue 06-Aug-13 21:42:36

It means 'I am not setting up a medical practice and looking for patients'.
In the past, if you didn't join an established practice, you ' hung out your tile!'
Ie:- you put up a brass plate with your name and qualifications and waited for the doorbell to ring. You were NOT ALLOWED to do any other advertising.
If you tried:- you were struck off the medical register. Even how big your plate was was regulated!

Those were the days, weren't they Galen sad

Galen Tue 06-Aug-13 22:37:15

Quite! I wish in a lot of ways they hadn't changed.
Perhaps we should set up a separate medical professionals (Drs Dentists, nurses physics etcsmile thread where we can all complain how things have changed?
At least we might get it out of systems. I for one definitely feel things have not changed for the better.

janeainsworth Tue 06-Aug-13 22:43:30

It's the loss of trust that's so sad - but I'll save the rest for another day.
