It's official!
It's good for us more elderly folks, Harvard have said that it improves our memories!

Sounds great but are we talking mixing up cocoa or the nice simple sort of Galaxy packet drinks. I predict a glut of new healthy drinks. Won't it be fun trying them out?

Can't you just eat chocolate?

Dad did not normally like hot chocolate but he tried some when he was in hospital about 3 years before he died and he liked the hot chocolate they served.
He did ask where they got it from and it turned out to be a catering company which normally only supplied to restaurants and places like hospitals ( private and NHS ).
The carer did ask if there was any way Dad could buy any but they only sold huge tins and probably half of it would have gone off before Dad would have drank it.

Galen does this mean I'm doomed (chocolate is a migraine trigger for me) hmm

LizG Thu 08-Aug-13 08:57:44

Oh no Oldgreymare that's a disaster, poor you. Perhaps they will produce a drink which doesn't set off the migraines.

Do they know if or why hot chocolate is better than a bar of chocolate? A bit of Googling coming up.

Nelliemoser Thu 08-Aug-13 09:16:06

A bit more info. It still doesn't answer the question about eating plain chocolate.

Oops! blued this time.

A bit more info. It still doesn't answer the question about eating plain chocolate.

OGM me too! Fortunately chocolate isn't top of my food list!

It's the cocoa that is supposed to help prevent memory loss. Obviously the less sugar involved, the better.

This talk of "hot chocolate" is the usual media rubbish.

Lilygran Thu 08-Aug-13 12:39:28

So we can just eat chocolate?

Nelliemoser Thu 08-Aug-13 12:49:30

I like very dark Chocolate! Now I have an excuse.

j08 Thu 08-Aug-13 13:07:29

Ummm... let me see? Is there sugar in chocolate? And fat?

You need to make cocoa with just boiling water/skimmed milk, and drink without sugar.

Good luck with that.

j08 Thu 08-Aug-13 13:07:58

It won't make the slightest bit of difference anyway.

Don't like chocolate and loathe milk. Shall I book my place in the Dementia Unit now?

Galen Thu 08-Aug-13 17:53:44

I've just taken the last place after my day at work. Sorry smile

Greatnan Thu 08-Aug-13 18:42:01

I am donating my chocolate to Soop, Micelf and Mishap. (Not too difficult - I don't like it!)

j08 Thu 08-Aug-13 18:42:48

I always crave cocoa when I have a bad cold. With a little touch of demarara sugar.

Yum! I love chocolate in any form really! I had a lovely chocolate tart at the pub yesterday, with pistachio ice Try hard to limit intake though for all the reasons j08 has reminded me about sad.

Will have hot chocolate at the end of an autumn/winter walk /afternoon in the garden!
