IMO there is no great merit in Scotland Yard launching an investigation into new claims that she murdered by a member of the British military.
It will not bring her back !
Hmm!

Nonu Fri 23-Aug-13 10:48:27

I like your 2nd paragraph Gilly smile

gillybob Fri 23-Aug-13 10:44:58

I have to agree with your there Nonu Diana would have definitely been the number one although it would have been funny to see them trying to out- glamourise each other!

Isn't fate a funny thing? we can all look at our lives and wonder what might have been if this or that hadn't happened. I agree merlot that William and Kate might never have met had Diana still been alive but I don't think Diana would have been a "needy mother in law". I think she would have made a lovely, down to earth grandma who doted on her grandchildren as she did her children. Love the thought that she might have "wound Charles up" he could have done with a bit "winding".

Listen to me bleating on like a give a damn. grin

merlotgran Fri 23-Aug-13 10:16:46

gillybob, There is no doubt that if Diana had lived she would be number one grandmother but if she had lived, we could be looking at an entirely different set of circumstances.

William might not have gone to St. Andrews, might not have met Kate and if he had, would Kate have wanted to be in constant comparison to a needy mother-in-law? William might not have a child (yet) and Charles would, almost certainly, not be married to Camilla.

I was not a Diana fan and she was definitely a loose cannon. While she might have cheerfully indulged in winding up Charles I don't think she would have deliberately done anything to discredit the Royal family of which her son would one day be head.

Nonu Fri 23-Aug-13 10:10:09

GillY , it sure as heck would not be Carole ! grin

Royal families have had to cope with worse thorns than Diana throughout history.

annodomini Fri 23-Aug-13 09:32:05

Don't I remember that Charles said that if(when) he became king, he'd be 'Defender of faiths' rather than 'Defender of the faith'? though how he would heave liked his ex-wife taking on Islam, would have been interesting...

gillybob Fri 23-Aug-13 05:52:11

My thoughts exactly AlieOxon and petallus imagine the embarrassment of William having a half Egyptian /muslim, half brother or sister. "One" would find it unbearable. It just wouldn't do for Georgie Porgie to have a Dodi as his step grandad would it?

Sidelining a "lower royal" is much easier though Absent can you imagine Diana being sidelined in any way?

I wonder who the number one grandma would have been if Diana was alive today?

Nonu Thu 22-Aug-13 21:52:04

"And " if she thought she could have given the royal family , grief , she would have done just that , IMO

petallus Thu 22-Aug-13 21:45:17

Fergie didn't go on tv and say Prince Charles was unfit to be King. She also was not likely to provide an Arab half sibling to the future king of England.

She was in a position to do much more damage than Fergie.

absent Thu 22-Aug-13 21:38:58

The establishment is awfully good at sidelining embarrassments e.g. The Duke of Edinburgh's sisters, the Queen Mother's cousin, Prince John.

merlotgran Thu 22-Aug-13 21:36:59

So was Fergie but they haven't bumped her off.

petallus Thu 22-Aug-13 21:33:45

Memories are short.

Diana was a thorn in the side and an embarrassment to the
Establishment/Royal Family.

Nonu Thu 22-Aug-13 21:13:32

ALIE , may I ask which people ?

AlieOxon Thu 22-Aug-13 21:06:55

I must say one of my first thoughts was 'well, this is very convenient for some people....'

bluebell Thu 22-Aug-13 20:56:11

Do I give a flying fig?

nightowl Thu 22-Aug-13 20:39:42

Tut tut absent, where is your sense of conspiracy? There you go again, pouring cold water and common sense over the theories. That will never do grin

absent Thu 22-Aug-13 20:21:32

Wouldn't it have been far simpler to kill the playboy, whom few would mourn, than to kill the princess whose every move was avidly watched by half the kingdom and whose every inane utterance was dutifully broadcast by the media? Just asking…

gillybob Thu 22-Aug-13 13:21:00

My previous post was meant to be a joke janthea hence the grin???

janthea Thu 22-Aug-13 13:16:52

Gillybob You obviously enjoy conspiracy theories, the majority of which turn out to be utter nonsense.

gillybob Thu 22-Aug-13 12:49:28

Exactly Lilygran So many unanswered questions. grin

Lilygran Thu 22-Aug-13 12:40:21

Did he really commit suicide in what might have been a vain attempt to kill his passengers? Does any 'news' on D's death sell magazines and newspapers? How much reliance can we place on any of the stories? Is the conspiracy theory really a load of old codswallop? Do pigs fly?

gillybob Thu 22-Aug-13 11:39:21

There are many unanswered questions about the driver that night.

Why did Henri-Paul have £100,000 in 14 seperate bank accounts?

Where did this money come from? It is known that the payments were made by bankers drafts from the UK and are quite seperate from the payment of his salary.

Was he really drunk? Eye witnesses state they only ever saw him drink diet coke. Film footage also shows him bending down and tying his shoe laces. Not something one could do easily if they were "as drunk as they say he was".

There were over 20 fresh bodies in the morgue that night. How do we know the blood sample was taken from the right person? Could it have been deliberately accidentally mixed up?

Just saying thats all.................

annodomini Thu 22-Aug-13 08:54:21

The origin of these allegations has been attributed to the family of Danny Nightingale - the SAS trooper who has been twice convicted for retaining a weapon and ammunition after leaving the service.

There does seem to be some truth in the notion that the Charles/Diana marriage was arranged but it's a hell of a leap from that to assassination. If there had been a plan to murder D (and I haven't seen any evidence as to any sane motive!) I am sure we would not have known anything about it. She would have died peacefully in her sleep from an unsuspected fatal condition.
PS Elvis works down the chip shop and Lord Lucan is running a bar in the Bahamas. His best customers are little green men from outer space. And the USA never landed a man on the moon.

Greatnan Thu 22-Aug-13 08:36:56

The people responsible were, surely, the driver Dodi for not telling him to slow down and for not ensuring seat belts were worn, Diana herself for not wearing hers, and the paparazzi for chasing them so fast.
It is inconceivable that the entire French health system, police and security forces would connive with the British Royal Family and security forces to murder Diana, and especially not in a way which left so much to chance.
If you look at the Wikipedia article it deals with most of the theories. For example, the reason the ambulance passed other hospitals was because it was heading for the one with the specialist knowledge of trauma injuries.
