Waitrose car park rage

I was cruising around my local Waitrose car park earlier this morning looking for a space when an elderly gentleman came through the entrance (where you can only turn right) and turned left into my one way bit, gesticulating irritatedly for me to get out of the way so he could come down in the wrong direction. I gestured to tell him he should have gone right and he responded immediately with a V sign.

Before I knew I was going to do it, I found myself giving him the finger (emphatically) and mouthing obscenities through my windscreen.

I know I should have ignored him or got out of my car to remonstrate thus maintaining the high moral ground but I was in the grip of a spasm of anger.

Oh dear! Do I have the dubious honour of being the only GNetter to have given the finger?

Many years ago I was on my new motor scooter when somebody cut me up. I was nervous enough already and angrily gave 'the finger'. The gesture was somewhat lost as I was wearing mittens at the time! confused

DS2, reporting on shopping trip with me: 'Daddy, we saw a sod in the car park today.' True enough - said sod had beaten me to a parking spot.

Did you hear about the Grandad who always took his granddaughter to her ballet lesson after school? One day he was poorly so Grandma took her instead. When they got home afterwards Grandad asked her how it had gone and she replied "we had a lovely journey Grandad, not a single Fing t..t, no bl....y idiots and not even one moron"

DD has only had her license 6mths but both DH and DS say "she drives just like her mother" not dangerous but moaning about all the idiots on the road grin I tap my temple with my middle finger in a 'use your brain' gesture and utter a few choice words.
I was with DD the other day when she was quiet shaken by the antics of a 'white van man' I told her she should be proud as she had prevented a potentially nasty accident.

I may have recounted this before. I was driving to work with my son in the passenger seat, dropping him off at college. A woman cut me up on the inside, nearly banging into the passenger door. I was furious - precious cargo! I gesticulated at her and called her an 'effing moron.' The lights turned red and she drew alongside, then to my horror got out of her car and came to my window. I was ready to rev up and drive away. She said 'I'm really, really sorry' and took the wind right out of my sails. I gave a stiff grimace of a smile, and replied 'Right!' So embarrassed! grin

I am not a very patient driver but I don't really like giving the 2 finger sign because of 'what it means' blush. I usually mouth some obscenity which makes me feel better and by the time it's come out the moment is over. I did it once when driving off the M.25 to a driver who was pushing me from the rear and he reacted in a very unpleasant manner; luckily he went south and I went north, so I was saved. The late Mr Gally told me never to do it again as there could have been consequences had it been elsewhere and I don't deal with consequences very well grin

My sister was being harangued by a man behind her who was flashing his lights and driving very close to her. Imagine her delight when a police car came in the opposite direction. She stopped, waved the policeman down and told him what was happening. The man was pulled over, while my sister waved cheerily and drove off! Never happens to me sad

j08 Thu 29-Aug-13 10:07:41

Rude ladies!!! shock

j08 Thu 29-Aug-13 10:06:59

shock I have never given the finger sign! And I don't even know what the universal wanker sign is! [claims moral high ground] [halo]

FlicketyB Thu 29-Aug-13 09:45:51

I just laugh at them and shrug. They find that even more infuriating than any gesture

As my OH often says, the only road accidents he ever sees are in his rear-view mirror...grin

annodomini Wed 28-Aug-13 18:40:04

There was an idiot causing a delay in the main street of our village and I was leaning hard on the horn. After I eventually got past, I noticed, in my mirror, the idiot getting out of his car and soundly berating another completely innocent driver. blush

moomin Wed 28-Aug-13 17:52:16

Oh I have to admit to being a hand-gesture driver when someone gets my goat blush - phoenix that is a classic!

My OH has told me off a few times when I've been driving alone and I've told him I've given the finger to some useless s*d who is driving like an idiot, saying they could be aggressive and there might be a possibility of getting mysef into a dangerous situation. Hasn't stopped me so far, I really should know better. Must.Try.Harder. wink

I think that I have been educated!

Movedalot Wed 28-Aug-13 16:45:49

phoenix are we related? When I was in Canada supposedly behaving myself because we were meeting son's fiancée's family for the first time, we had a contretemps with another driver about a parking space with was just being vacated. We had been waiting longest but the other driver was in a better position to get in. DS's future MiL didn't want me to get out and say something but after a while I just went and stood in front of the other car, didn't say a word. The driver became very irate but could do nothing about it unless she ran me over.

When my aunt got older she said that drivers were much ruder than they used to be, kept honking their horns. We were not surprised!

annodomini Wed 28-Aug-13 16:26:49

I've learned a couple of new signs today. Thanks!
