We need an 'I agree' button! But does the Court Jester know his/her status?

When I did my abbreviated list of regular posters there was one very important one I forgot. How could I? The Court Jester or Fool who has licence to say and do things for which others would be punished.

I am a relatively new member. I joined because I was struggling with a problem and someone recommended this site. The folks on here helped me enormously at the time. I realised that there were lots of people having similar problems to mine. I only try to join in 'light-hearted' discussions and
and chat and try never to upset or offend anyone, hopefully I haven't.

I used to post regularly on the TES forum, which had thousands of regulars from the education world. I had to go cold turkey eventually as I was wasting far too much time on there. As Absent says, you got to know the usual crew and know which posts you'd enjoy, which would make you laugh, which would inform you, which to ignore, etc.

The ones that always disturbed me were the bullies, of which there were several, and some of whom had a hardcore following of hangers-on applauding their every nasty remark. You had to wonder if they behaved like this on a forum, how exactly did they behave in the real world with children in their care? On the other hand, you also had to wonder about some of the delicate blossoms who shrivelled up at a mildly sarky remark directed at them - how on earth did they survive in the classroom?

I've only been on Gransnet a few months, but haven't come across anything like the bullies/victims on the TES site - perhaps we've all both mellowed and toughened up in our old age!

Welcome, Kiora and you can indeed pour out all your fears on his forum. We mainly only get agitated about politics or religion, which is pretty standard for most forums.
One of my grandsons is going into the Royal Navy this month and another want to join the New Zealand navy. I have friends with sons serving in Afghanistan and I know how the fear is constant.

Kiora I lived through some scary days in Northern Ireland as an army wife in the early eighties, so sort of understand. But we were all in quarters together, so had the support. We could, sometimes, hear the bombs going off..

I belong to a forum set up specifically for army families. I have a son who is in and out of scary place like a yoyo. It supported me through some very very scary moments. It helped me cope and kept my spirits up. As time went on I noticed lots of 'names' started to go missing. Some said goodbye, most just disappeared. I felt an undercurrent of discord. but was never really privy to what was causing it. The site has somehow lost its soul and I really miss the comfort and support it gave me. Especially in the middle of the night when I heard a car door bang outside and waited hardly breathing for the dreaded knock on the door. I joined the site because I didn't want to scare or bore my family with my fears. I also wanted to share my experiences with others who were going through the same thing. We shared the fear, and the joys of our children's safe return. That's partly while I joined this site. To show off and talk about my wonderful grandchildren with people who feel the same about theirs. To share the ups and downs of the ageing process and our place in the ever changing world with others in the same boat. I'm hoping its a safe none judgemental environment to do this in. I am reserving my judgement and I am following the posts with amusement and great interest. We will see

janerowena We've had a couple of Sick-making Ones in the past but are mercifully spared any current members of that sort.

Having read all this lot over again, I am more convinced than ever of my last point (I think it was the last) on P4 - that no-one should post without re-reading. Everyone on here seems to put a completely different interpretation on one post. Try slowing down just a little?

A small confession - I have one lady who is so unfailingly sugary and lovely on my board that I long to reach for the ban button. She never joins in a conversation as such, just writes reams of short affectionate phrases with kisses.

I know mine - feedback comes thick and fast from my children!

I know my faults - my family have never scrupled to tell me them!
