What do you eat when you feel hungry but don't fancy anything you usually eat?

janeainsworth Wed 18-Sept-13 19:40:42

Glad you're better Thatbagssmile

soop Wed 18-Sept-13 18:22:34

That's my girl. grin

thatbags Wed 18-Sept-13 14:50:40

Sliced apple, natch.

thatbags Wed 18-Sept-13 14:50:27

Apple and grated chocolate makes a good sandwich.

thatbags Wed 18-Sept-13 14:49:22

Thank you, soop. I'm fine today. Bacon and fried tomatoes for breakfast.

soop Wed 18-Sept-13 13:37:37

I'm sorry that I missed this thread, bags had I known that you were out of sorts I would have sent you flowers.

POGS Wed 18-Sept-13 13:00:50

AKA, nina,

Not fried. grin Frys, as in Cadbury, Nestles etc.

She loved them but I agree with you YUK. It does rather make her sound like the old women in The Vicar of Dibley who made sandwiches like peanut butter and sardines or cheese and pears.

Oh hang on the last one sounds quite nice. grin

annodomini Wed 18-Sept-13 10:27:22

Toast and honey.

ninathenana Wed 18-Sept-13 09:28:53

Frys or fried grin. Turkish delight in a sandwich, why ?? That's just soooo wrong.

Anne58 Wed 18-Sept-13 00:01:37

Well done bags just came up for a quick look round before turning in, and you reminded me to take soup out of the freezer for tomorrows lunch. Now, what's it to be, leek and potato or lentil and bacon...........

Daisyanswerdo Tue 17-Sept-13 23:13:58

Toast and Marmite, or a drink made with hot water and Marmite.

Aka Tue 17-Sept-13 22:51:10

Fried Turkish Delight Sandwiches POGS?????

FlicketyB Tue 17-Sept-13 22:45:05

Tinned spaghetti on toast, cheese and tomato risotto anything sloppy tasty and easy to eat. Nothing that incorporates eggs or milk.

harrigran Tue 17-Sept-13 22:42:29

When I am off my food but need to eat something I will have plain noodles. Children used to have a little fish in parsley sauce and a spoonful of mashed potato.

I know I'm ill if I wake up and don't immediately think of having a cup of tea. And certain foods that I used to love but ate when I was coming down with a virus don't go down well any more [assume my body associates the food with feeling bad afterwards which shows I've still got a few animal instincts]. For some reason a beefburger with as many additives in it as possible goes down well when I'm feeling better [apologies to vegetarians who are probably turning green at the thought]. Reckon it's all the monosodium glutomate [sp] and stuff in them. In fact, if a cat or dog is off their food you give them something with a strong smell such as liver. [the mention of liver is making me turn green now envy].

MargaretX Tue 17-Sept-13 18:34:07

chicken broth. I always have some frozen to eat after feeling really off food,or being in bed with a virus.

If not, then tea and toast. I have to be really poorly to go off toast.
Hope you feel better now......

LizG Tue 17-Sept-13 18:17:07

I so wish that I would go off my food smile but it just doesn't happen to me! Hope you perk up soon Thatbags

Grannyeggs Tue 17-Sept-13 18:10:54

Eggs on toast, always make me happy.hope you feel better tomorrow Bags

POGS Tue 17-Sept-13 18:10:28

Sounds yucky but I like a pot of cottage cheese and pineapple from Asda with a packet of Walkers plain crisps. Sounds revolting but they do it for me, I think it must be the sweetness and salt combo. Better than my mothers Frys Turkish Delight sandwiches. smile

thatbags Tue 17-Sept-13 18:07:59

I might go for that tomorrow morning, stansgran. Good idea.

The salmon is in the oven now and I'm looking forward to it. Virus should have occurred to me over the last couple of days which were more than usually painful. This happens with ME hmm. Just as I always used to get a headache when my period was due but didn't think of that until it started, and then I'd think: Oh, that! Duh wink

Stansgran Tue 17-Sept-13 17:55:27

Porridge with a handful of dried fruit and a handful of almond slivers a teaspoonful of brown sugar and a dollop of cream if your tummy/stomach/belly is ok.

thatbags Tue 17-Sept-13 17:31:09

I've just put together a pot of chicken soup. It's bubbling merrily on the stove. I have bled a radiator and then got cross with the boiler, which has a hissy fit every time I do that. As well as getting cross with it, I went out (it's outside) and sorted the pressure valve. Gave the boiler casing a kick for good measure too – you have to actually to make the door stick. I think the fact that I can get cross with a boiler means I'm over the worst.

Quite looking forward to that salmon now, and the chicken soup will be lovely for tomorrow's lunch.

Thank you for the ideas smile. I shall horde hoard (I always have to think about that one) them for next time.

ninathenana Tue 17-Sept-13 17:30:29

breakfast cereal, morning, noon or night smile can always manage that if I don't fancy a full meal.

JessM Tue 17-Sept-13 17:18:44

plain yogurt (with maybe a little jam or honey) very easy to digest as the bacteria done most of the work for you.

gracesmum Tue 17-Sept-13 17:17:28

I'm with micelf in thinking that not feeling like eating is the body's way of saying it wants to be left alone. If loss of appetite becomes a problem however, I would try tiny amounts of very tasty, "favourite" foods - and not forgetting Jewish penicillin of course (chicken soup) or egg custards which might tempt a jaded palate.
