£2 for a Lottery Ticket

I recently upped my lotto spend from just £1 a week to £3, to cover the Wednesday and Saturday draws and the plus 5. The plus 5 was only 20p a go and I've won £25 twice for 4 numbers in the last couple of months. Of course now I've discovered it, it's been discontinued! I don't think I'll be buying tickets regularly at £2 a go. Though I reckon we've been net gainers since the National Lottery started, as we were lucky enough to get 5 numbers once during the first year. smile

I suppose there will be families that can barely afford a £1 ticket still buying them at double the price.

We used to have a small lottery sweep when I was working but when I retired I have only bought a ticket occasionally and I will be buying fewer from now on with such an increase. I think that long term they will lose out.

I stopped buying them quite a while ago now,we used to buy one for Wednesday & Saturday,we now do the Irish lottery on both days and for our £1.00 stake we get 4 x choices of 3 numbers at 25p a go I must admit we have been very lucky with them as they are random numbers every week,we have won £152.00 on quite a few occassions, certainly not mind blowing but a dam sight more than we ever won on the national Lottery over all the years.

I thought that after we stopped buying tickets a few years ago, mrshat. I've never checked since - that way madness lies! grin

I've stopped buying them! I paid by direct debit but no longer - just wait - my numbers will come up shortly!!!! hmm

I decided very early on that I was not going to buy lottery tickets, instead I bought Premium Bonds and have done very nicely thank you and if I wanted I could have my initial stake back.

Thanks Ana. That is a very large increase and could well be self-defeating. If lots of other people feel the same way as merlot, tanith and PRINTMISS, they could end up losing money.

How much did they used to be?

PRINTMISS Fri 04-Oct-13 16:58:23

For some unkown reason we have always done the Lottery - force of habit really, buy the weekend paper, get the lottery ticket, however, not anymore. We shall occasionally get a lucky dip - the trouble is we have had the same numbers since it started, you can guarantee our numbers will now appear (they never have), but then that is life!

Haven't bought a lottery ticket for a long long time maybe if its a double roll-over and I certainly wouldn't pay £2 for one... I think OH said he might do the Health lottery but he only does it once in a blue moon.

We usually buy three tickets online - one each and a lucky dip but at £2 each??? I don't think so!
