Are you a sockaholic?

I'm only a size 2. I usually end up buying boys socks!

Actually, thinking about it, I take a 37, and a 38, and a 39 in shoes. It depends on the make and the shape.

Merrell's trainers I need a 40.

Love socks. Am dead fussy about materials, toe seams (not allowed), shrinkage, etc.

So I usually buy men's socks. Women's socks are too tight for me. I only take a size five (38) in shoes. I want toe-wriggling room in both my socks and my shoes.

Only fifteen, petallus?

I was feeling guilty about buying another two pairs of socks yesterday because this brings me up to about fifteen pairs. But after reading this thread I feel quite relaxed about my collection.

I nearly always get mine from Waitrose which have a lovely selection and usually buy on impulse as I go past the sock section with my trolley.

I buy middle range price, avoiding the silk ones which cost £11 each.

On the subject of SoX - here is a stanza from DH's speech at DD2's wedding, when he was addressing the bridegroom -

I love my sock's slipper socks/feet conditioning socks/xmas socks /welly socks and a big assortment of different coloured and textured socks for every day. DGS5 aged 10 wears odd socks and he is very fond of telling his Grandy that he has another pair at home just like them

grannyactivist my American son bought me for Xmas one year a range of 'odd socks'. Each sock was a different pattern and colour and you just wore which ever one you liked. I loved them.

Clearly not a case of "No socks, please, we're British???"

I find socks cut into my ankles after a bit so I have had recourse to opaque 40 denier pop socks, but I seem to remember M&S doing smart "trouser socks" for women some years ago. Never seen since.

When I was teaching I used to buy socks the children would like - they loved my red pair with teddies on them!

I have just found the sock shop online. They have a lot of socks with hand-finished seams. I shall try them.

I have drawers full of socks because I am always looking for a comfortable pair, I found the ones, without seams across the toes, in Sainsburys. After years of searching and expensive mistakes the ideal garment was sitting just down the road from me

What has happened to properly finished-off socks? I have a drawer full of socks with a seam across the top of the toes. As my big toe is shorter than the next one, my toes go right up into the front of my shoes, and the seam ridge is then jammed down over them, so I end up with blisters. I keep hopefully buying socks which seem to have less bulk in the seams than usual, and being disappointed. I ransack the srawer for the best ones, but I don't like to throw out the others . . .

I have large feet so I wear DH's socks inside my wellies. I have a drawer full of socks and they're all black!

I have several pairs of black cotton Falke socks in varying thicknesses to wear with trousers, because I can't bear pop socks, and a couple of pairs of beige ones.
Then I have tennis socks, and walking socks.
That's it

One of my sons regularly used to choose to wear odd socks. We knew we had the right school for him when a potential headmaster interviewed us and we noted his socks were different colours, one patterned and one plain.
As for me, I have no odd socks and keep the ones I have in a sock drawer that has small compartments. It's always tidy.

Nothing ugly about my socks! I share dorsetpennt's obsession with them;
it's more affordable than a shoe obsession! The brighter/prettier/sillier
the better! The ones on my feet at this moment are maroon with large
pink polka-dots.
Must admit my sock drawer could do with it's annual cull though.

I need socks with a fairly loose top, so they always fall down!

I am also reminded here of my mother - the supreme housewife, who, when she came to stay when the DC were young, made it her mission to pair off all the DS's white sports socks. She got a nappy pin, and each time she discovered a lone sock, she would attach it to the pin. She ended up with 7 different socks, and was not amused. The boys didn't give a **, and we're happy to wear slightly odd socks, and that, as far as she was concerned, was quite beyond the pale...

I too have a sock drawer that is full to bursting and this week I bought three more pairs - sensible black ones for use with my winter shoes. However, I found myself wearing some sparkly ones the other day. I find M&S's biggest girls' size is just right for me and there are some flamboyant ones in that range. There is also the problem of unpaired socks, but that's another story.

I see... the question of socks rears its ugly head...

While not exactly a sockaholic, dorset, I am permanently on the search for a pair of socks that stay put and don't slip down all the time. I've bought cheap ones and really, really, expensive ones but to no avail. My latest ploy is to buy cheap and often but, as a consequence, I too have dozens of pairs.
