Not surprised that folks hadn't come across jalouse before as its use is regional. It is used in the North East and in Ayrshire due to a mass migration of Doric speaking farmers (including Robert Burns's father) after a run of bad harvests. There is/was a small enclave of Doric speakers in Alloa where half of an agricultural engineering factory moved from Huntly to be close to coal and railway. That included my paternal GPs - hence my fluency in Doric although I have always lived in Central Scotland.

My spell checker keeps changing it to jalousie - there it has done it again!

Scots is not a standard language. It has, like English, many regional variations. The words in the quiz are mostly from the Doric, spoken in Aberdeenshire and thereabouts, bearing little resemblance to say Glaswegian.

I only got 7 out of 10 but I have not lived in Scotland since 1968. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it.
