I think my sense of smell is o.k, especially on the bus. The men with smelly feet or anoraks always seem to sit near me.

Of course smell and taste are closely connected. Can you still smell things, Rojon?
I lost most of my sense of smell years ago, I just get random whafts and know I'm not tasting properly because I crave salt and sugar.
What I miss most are the flower scents.

How miserable Rojon. Have you had a virus recently? Several years ago, after a nasty virus, my senses of smell and taste went haywire. Everything I liked to eat and smell reminded me of decaying corpse (not that I have ever eaten decayed corpse!) and previously unpleasant smells and tastes neither smelled nor tasted at all. Very strange and somewhat disturbing. MRI scan showed no reason for this and it has gradually improved although never totally back to normal.

So it could be that. We never appreciate something until it is gone

Hope it improves. I just go for strong flavours now!

rojonyou can spice up your potatoes by doing them dolphenquoise style with a drop of cream/milk and onions that will improve the flavour for you and add a nice twist to your meal times,have you thought of buying frozen fish from Aldi and using one fillet for your goujons and make your own batter or breadcrumbs that may taste better for you.I do think sometimes we have to have a rethink of our menu's and try new idea's as we can get very complacent with our diet.

Pogs I keep my cooking salt in quite a large container so not sugar. Absent the chicken wasn't frozen don't know about the other. It was a small one from Aldi and I used plenty of seasoning. The fish goujons were ready made. I am not a lover of fish and to buy a small quantity for one would entail a bus ride and pre-planning. I usually have them on those occasions when I gaze into the freezer to give me ideas for my meal. You're probably right about the potatoes. Maybe this years harvest will be better.

A few times over the last couple of years I have had days when I've had a strange metallic taste in my mouth. Can't explain why and it just disappears as ,mysteriously as it arrived

Was the chicken originally frozen or intensively farmed or both? A lot of potatoes have been quite noticeably tasteless for the past year or so – it's something to do with the weather apparently. Home-made or ready-made fish goujons?
