I'm not struck on the outside of it but the interior is lovely. It has had some
famous critics (the exterior that is). Martin Shaw is appearing at the Rep at the moment and he said as a Brummie he is appalled by it. He says it's 'monstrous'. But great inside.

I think it looks fabulous! We were at Symphony Hall last Wednesday so my first sight of the library was at night and it looked lovely. When I saw it again the next day driving back towards the motorway, it still looked very striking by daylight although I was less convinced by the big gold chimney thing on the top, but I suppose 21st century Santas have their weight problems too and this would accommodate the fattest! The facilities on offer sound fantastic and I am looking forward to seeing it properly as soon as I can.

At the risk of being a Brummie bore (again). We have just visited the new Birmingham Library. Wow it's really impressive. There are 2 outdoor gardens on separate floors with lots of seating and plants where you can see across the whole of the city. People were sitting in the gardens drinking coffee bought from the ground floor cafe (and some eating their own sandwiches) in the peace and quiet. A glass lift goes through the middle of the place but there are ordinary lifts, escalators and stairs too. There is a walkway directly through to the Birmingham Rep Theatre. Wonderful!
