Why do some articles of clothing say 'do not use conditioner' and does it matter that I just did? thlconfused

Charleygirl Thu 17-Oct-13 19:14:42

annodomini I dream of having soft water but the London water is very hard. I still do not feel the necessity to use any sort of fabric or hair conditioner so I save money.

hebrideanlady that thought never occurred to me, I must be losing it mentally. Supper calls I think.

Soft water here, so I have never felt the need of fabric conditioner. From time to time, I use it on my hair to try to make it thicker - some hope!

Gorki Thu 17-Oct-13 15:14:19

I dont dribble when I'm cleaning my teeth because my teeth are in a differnt place to my mouth grin

petallus Thu 17-Oct-13 14:21:07

If I don't put conditioner on my hair it's all frizzy and dry.

How do people manage without?

Charleygirl Thu 17-Oct-13 14:09:52

I have not used conditioner on my clothes or hair for many years and neither is the worse for wear without it. It took many washes for the condiitioner to work its way out of my clothes but my clothes are no longer stiff. I worked out that my mother's generation did not have access to using conditioner so I could save myself some money.

Tegan Thu 17-Oct-13 13:13:04

I don't think you're supposed to use conditioner on towels and teatowels as it stops them being absorbent; use it on everything else but not them. May look nicer in the airing cupboard but don't do the job properly if conditioned.

sunseeker Thu 17-Oct-13 13:12:34

simtib how do you clean your teeth in the shower? I clean mine after I have had breakfast and I am usually dressed by then. I used to get toothpaste dribbles on my clothes sometimes - now I hold a towel under my chin!

grannyactivist Thu 17-Oct-13 12:44:48

No fabric conditioner for me either. I like to dry myself off on a towel that is still sort of stiff and preferably line dried. [weirdo emoticon]

goldengirl Thu 17-Oct-13 11:53:51

I don't use conditioner either for my clothes or my hair - except when I go to the hairdressers and then I have whatever's on offer.

Gorki Thu 17-Oct-13 10:06:12

Unnecessary expense, I think. Conditioner I mean

dustyangel Thu 17-Oct-13 10:03:26

Nor me ffin.
Look at the time ! Why am I on GN when I've got loads to do?

ffinnochio Thu 17-Oct-13 08:33:50

I never use conditioner. Anyone else?

petallus Thu 17-Oct-13 08:21:59

I am always dribbling toothpaste down my clothes but for some reason I have to continue to get dressed before I clean my teeth.

kittylester Thu 17-Oct-13 07:00:46

I clean my teeth after breakfast but have to get dressed before breakfast or I'd still be wandering round in my dressing gown at bedtime. thlblush

simtib Wed 16-Oct-13 20:14:16

I clean my teeth in the shower, that way I can dribble as much as I like.

Agus Wed 16-Oct-13 18:14:12

If I don't want to use conditioner or have run out of it, I use clear vinegar. Doesn't smell and absolutely no soap residue left. Especially good for e cloths.

Nelliemoser Wed 16-Oct-13 17:52:15

Nina Yes it is smug! Sensible though! wink

ninathenana Wed 16-Oct-13 17:49:34

Would it sound smug to say I always clean my teeth before I get dressed for that reason. [thigrin]

Nelliemoser Wed 16-Oct-13 17:38:31

kittyl I suspect a lot of clothes suffer from toothpaste dribbled down them. It seems to ruin a whole lot of stuff. I would like a good way of getting stains off, but but it seems to leave rather permanent marks.

I would have hoped by now that I had learnt my "don't dribble toothpaste" lesson but I never seem to do so. thlconfused

kittylester Wed 16-Oct-13 17:02:38

It's a fleecy M&S top thingy. I've only worn it once and dribbled toothpaste down it. I didn't even think to check the label cos I've been doing this for years and years. It is/was lovely and warm. It looks ok but it's a worry!!! thlgrin

Tegan Wed 16-Oct-13 16:42:37

That's interesting, cause I use fabric conditioned to remove sticky stuff from my car and didn't know why it worked.

J52 Wed 16-Oct-13 16:41:53

Cashmere should not be washed in fabric conditioner. It matts the threads.x
