How old…

Age is a funny thing, isn't it. My grandchildren know how old I am - we were married near my birthday, so anniversaries are always celebrated near that date - together with Mothering Sunday! I have no idea why I always thought my gran was 72, (I never knew her age), that was a long time ago, but she actually died at that age, long after she had stopped looking after me, and I have often thought it was odd that that age had stuck with me.

…do your grandchildren think you are? I have never pretended to be younger than I am – older, when I was a teenager and wanted to see an X-rated movie or drink in a pub – but never younger. I have quite happily told them my age but they still persist in believing that I am thirty something. I have even explained that I was, of course, grown up when I became a mummy and if their mummy is 30, then I must be at least 50 but am, in fact, 63. No, the maximum they will allow me to be is 35. It's sweet really.
