It was decided at lunchtime today by a committee, that consisted of three judges and a doctor, that:-

CHOCOLATE IS A FRUIT so therefore counts as one of your five a day!smile

Ariadne Wed 23-Oct-13 17:08:00

grin Obviously a committee that does useful work! Did it meet in a pub? Heartfelt thanks anyway.

Galen grin
DD1 works with midwives, SRNs and Health Visitors. Did you know that cake eaten at work has no calories?

Galen Wed 23-Oct-13 17:12:03

We were on a training day for PIP and were all lunching at the same table!

annodomini Wed 23-Oct-13 17:33:50

Now you tell us, Galen, and I have no chocolate in the house!

Penstemmon Wed 23-Oct-13 17:38:17

And as a bonus...butter is now good for us! grin

kittylester Wed 23-Oct-13 17:43:47

Phew, what a relief Galen. So a bar of white chocolate, one of dark chocolate, and and another of milk chocolate together with wine must be 4 of them! thlgrin

thatbags Wed 23-Oct-13 20:24:00

Bitter has always been good for us in my house. Margarine does not cross the threshold and never has. Chocolate has always been counted as a fruit (grows on trees dunnit). Wine also. wink

You wait. It'll be lard and beef fat that are good for us next.

thatbags Wed 23-Oct-13 20:24:29

Butter!

And not Betty's bit 'o butter.

Ana Wed 23-Oct-13 20:32:11

Cheese should be classed as a fruit as well...
(can't think why, but I like it! wink)

janeainsworth Wed 23-Oct-13 20:33:11

Bitter's good for you too, Bags.
Full of vitamin B, my mum used to say. She brewed her owngrin

Deedaa Wed 23-Oct-13 20:34:36

Don't forget, any cake or chocolate that is given to you has no calories. Foods of the same colour also have no calories ....... vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and white chocolate - zero calories! It must be true, my daughter told me and she's a scientist grin

Just wondering where I can get beef marrow from?
Can't beat it in a stew?

Galen Wed 23-Oct-13 21:22:28

I prefer mild to bitter, but you can't get it down here. Seems to be midland drink

janeainsworth Wed 23-Oct-13 21:29:19

Mild!! Tastes like washing up water grin

Galen Wed 23-Oct-13 21:30:50

Each to their own smile

Stansgran Wed 23-Oct-13 21:46:46

Heston's mince has beef marrow so Waitrose must sell it.

Lona Wed 23-Oct-13 21:53:44

Yes, they do, they've been advertising it last couple of weeks.

Galen Wed 23-Oct-13 22:04:42

Only in combination with beef shin!. I just want marrow!

Great news Galen, what a relief after all the horror stories. I notice that a cardiologist yesterday also made positive comments about dairy products and meat - we just have to wait for shifts don't we. Remember when we could no longer go to work on an egg, for fear of instant death from salmonella>

Galen Thu 24-Oct-13 09:39:27

Personally I always preferred the no 7 bus.

Scarlet21 Thu 24-Oct-13 09:40:57

I just eat what I like but in small quantities and take a lot of exercise. My weight and cholesterol are in 'ideal' limits and I just ignore all the health/food scares from experts because I know that somewhere there is another expert about to prove them totally wrong. smile

janeainsworth Thu 24-Oct-13 11:17:27

The scares don't usually come from the professionals, Scarlet.
They come from journalists who misinterpret research findings to provide sensationalist copy, and from food manufacturers with vested interests.

It reminds me of the Royal Family, no not the Queen, the BBC T.V. Series.

Who remembers the next door neighbour, Cheryl, who was always eating
and had a bit of a weight problem. Denise said to her she should eat 5 fruits a day on her diet. Cheryl said "Oh I do Denise, a Terry's Chocolate Orange, 3 Cherry Bakewell's and a Strawberry Mivi Ice Cream". something like that. grin

I had an excellent message from my travelling daughter. She's met an American woman she finds inspirational and they're moving on to a new country together, along with other friends. Daughter's plan is for the next month to eat only things that grew in the ground. Not grubs, she means vegetables, fruit and pulses. Her diet today included popcorn ( a veg) and chocolate (comes from beans)
