Sunshine and showers alternating in this corner of Surrey today. I didn't hear anything last night but there were strong winds and driving rain apparently.
Large branches from a silver birch have gone through the roof of DD's garage. They use the garage more as a shed as it is an old asbestos structure that they need to replace. They are hoping insurance will cover it but probably not enough to replace it.
DH has been having problems planning his train journey to Gatwick this afternoon. At the moment there is an automated notice saying trains are suspended from Guildford but no way of finding out if they are laying on buses instead. I'm sure he 'll get to the airport somehow but not without difficulty.

Thanks gransnet for And the Mountains Echoed which just slid through the letterbox!! I had forgotten all about it, might just have to start it this afternoon as it is too windy, too wet and too dull to do anything outside in the garden, Thank Goodness!!!
Thankyou again smile

Just got my copy of And the Mountains Echoed smile. Forgot I'd entered the competition but have been desperate to read the book [nearly bought it in hardback the other day as well]. Thanks Gransnet grin!Very blustery here but no damage that I know of, although bit concerned at how high the River Trent is now [it was pretty high yesterday]. Leaves still on the trees and no branches down. Phew.

My DDS1 has said he will fix it at weekend, meanwhile DDH and DDS3 will prop it up. Neighbours out at moment, not put through door. xx

Good morning everyone, a bright morning and clear skies, still a strong breeze after the howling gale all night. I see there are a few branches from the willow tree next door in our garden, will have to move those (they are not heavy) Terrible nights sleep, obviously, but we are safe and sound, some people may not be so lucky. Hope you all enjoy your days.

I seemed to have escaped the worst of the weather. Saw many trees down on roofs in London on TV. I appear to have fences, shed and roof intact. I will have to get dressed to see if my car is still there as I took the precaution to not park it under a tree. It is still very windy but dry. My cat is not impressed.

Just spotted your other post Flower can't imagine your delightful neighbours will replace it and I should think you would want to be shut off from them asap. Very sad for you though flowers

Good morning, it's peeing down here at the moment, but not windy.
I didn't hear anything in the night dead to the world so we seem to have missed most of it.

Usual Monday stuff to do, bit of this and that, and then out for dinner this evening for ds's 40th smile

Sunshine and a breeze here in the Thames Valley...

Flowerofthewest Mon 28-Oct-13 08:34:05

Today I will be mainly hiding from the neighbours, our fence blew down in the gales and is lying across their garden. Not sure who has the boundary rights. Long post under legal.

Looking out of the window, it's bright and sunny, just a little bit of movement in the trees to suggest there is some wind out there, although I did hear it whistling in the night. I had to cancel my arrangements to go down to Sussex today, I gather the south coast is being battered and very sad news about a young boy swept out to sea there yesterday. Hope there wont be too many casualties and similarly hope that nearby Bushy and Richmond Parks wont have lost the number of trees that were blown down in the strong winds of '86

Good morning everyone. All quiet and calm so far here on the North East coast although weather forecast predicts high winds later on today. Stay safe everyone and have a good day. smile

LizG Mon 28-Oct-13 08:11:39

Good morning all. Glad you have all got through the night safely, hope rest of the GN'rs have survived well.

Good morning its not over yet , my neighbors car is under a fallen tree, there are fences down and I had to run out in my pj's to slam the lid back on the bin and drag it into the garage it was heavy but still blew over I 'll worry about the litter all over the garden later serves me right for not putting it away last night. They say the worst will be between 8 & 10am .

kittylester Mon 28-Oct-13 07:58:03

It's just drizzly here in North Leicestershire.

I'm off to Leicester on a mental health awareness course, all day, today. I wonder how many other people will turn up?

glammanana Mon 28-Oct-13 07:56:23
