A four line poem I shall endeavour to print,
I know it is rubbish, I can take a hint,
Show me up ladies, and do a lot better,
Who? is the most poetic Gransnetter.

My heart is beating fastly
The feeling could be nasty
I blame my favourite Band
I am sure you'll understand

I met Pam Ayres
I smelled of haddock
hoped she thought
I was Fanny Craddock!

Flowerofthewest Tue 12-Nov-13 21:37:37

Pam Ayres I am not
I do not give a jot
How can I compete?
I will take a back seat

Good news at last I have to tell,
the little fellow's feeling well.
Doctor Richard did a test
and gave him medicine for his chest.

So now with mum he's sleeping fast.
I'll bet this quiet doesn't last.
He has recovered well once more,
our little boy who's nearly four.

(I think it will take me a little longer - such stress.)

A four line poem is easy to write, if poetry isn't your passion.

Be trite; force the rhyme; forget allusion et al;

Why bother with metre and structure and such -

Just throw it all out, in modern day fashion.

Nannyfran---Love it!!

Well all you Grans and Grandas too,
I hope you've all had that jab 'gainst the 'flu,
I've had mine and it didn't make me sick,
but I must admit I felt a little prick.

The love that I see in the eyes of my son,
When he looks at his daughter, his much longed for one.
My own precious girl and the warmth that we share,
No riches or fame could with these things compare.

The birds at my window, bright leaves on the trees,
I know I am lucky to see such as these.
A new book to read or a walk through the field
And waiting to see what each new day may yield.

Such wonderful words you have put to rhyme
Reading them through makes me lost in time.
Happy, sad, joyous, thoughtful and fun.
My day has been made. Thanks everyone.

grannyactivist, I've just seen your very moving verse and my heart goes out to you.I pray your little one will be better soon. Please let us know.

nannyfran Tue 12-Nov-13 14:11:20

Caz, it was very tongue in cheek and I'm really not such a miserable old "B!"
I'll try and put some of my pleasures to verse soon and hope I can maintain the brilliant standard of all the other Grans!

Watching, waiting, through the night
Hoping everything's alright
Checking phone for text or call
Wishing that asleep I'd fall

News at last, he's rather ill
He's very hot, but feeling chill
He's three years old and he's not happy
To be in hospital, poor wee chappy.

Pack my bag, grab coat and run
S.O.S. from poorly grandson
Driving through the rainy night
Tortured breathing what a fright

Watching, waiting....we can't take a gamble
Pack him a bag and off to Bramble (*)
Pneumonia's horrid and gave us a fright
Now he's in safe hands we'll say goodnight

*Bramble is the children's ward

Alred De Musset
Called his cat ''Pusset''
His accent was affected
But that was to be expected.......

I really like to hear a pun.
In fact I think they're rather fun
I can't remember when I heard this rhyme
But I've known it for a very long time.

I'm off tomorrow to entertain,
My friend and I do it again and again.
It's called 'Upstairs, Downstairs ,lucky dip.'
I do hope it all goes with a zip.

Three blood tests before I start,
I hope there's nothing wrong with my heart
One is to see if I have gout
HenryVIII had better watch out.

I really liked the poems, dears,
Some made me feel quite giddy,
And one or two made me me laugh out loud,
(Especially the one from Tiggy!)

KatyK Mon 11-Nov-13 21:03:42

I love that Apricot - and how true

cazthebookworm Mon 11-Nov-13 20:28:26
