Thanks for the ideas.
We are only taking hand luggage as usual, getting very good at travelling light. However I have no real idea of how cold I will actually be given that we intend to do a lot of scenic rail journeys then gentle strolls.
Any ideas for a " winter in Switzerland capsule wardrobe" ?
Dare I risk just wearing my black light weight walking boots and not take any other footwear?

Last year I visited the Chateau de Chillon with Greatnan and Granjura. Happy days! It is a highly impressive place and quite menacing. But what a glorious setting.

We visited St, Gallen last year, near German Border. Beautiful town near Lake Constance. The highlight of our visit, for me,was the visit to 'Heidi's House' in Maienfeld.

Me too! A poem by Byron, about a monk from Geneva, who was imprisoned in the Chateau.

I can recommend the lake trips....we went from Vevey, but the steamers and boats seem to do round trips. We had lunch on board and then got off at Yvoire and Evian les Baines ( think that is the right spelling confused ). Don't forget that if you're going to get off the boat on the French side you'll need some euros. Also you can get lovely train trips right up into the mountains....also recommended. (And the trains run on time and are beautifully clean)

Obvious place to visit is Chateau Chillon - beautiful!
Visit Lausanne, lovely cable train into town centre from Lac Leman.
Try to visit Gruyeres, home of the cheese - lovely chateau, and gorgeous little cobbled town.
Also try to get to Aigle, and catch the train (not a very long trip) to Les Diablerets - a lovely, lovely mountain village in the Bernese Oberland.

Plenty of nice walks along the shores of Lac Leman, and,(not sure if they operate at this time of year), steamers and pleasure boats to take you on the lake.

Whatever you do, you will love the area - enjoy your trip!

Put this in chat as lots of people seem to read posts here.
Going to montreux in switzerland in 2 weeks for 4 days. Flying to Geneva. Any tips, good places to visit? We wont be skiing but like gentle strolls and lovely scenery interspersed with lots of stops for refreshments! Thinking of buying a train pass and going on some trips.
Hoping some of you will have some good suggestions thanks.
