I've just listened to half of this today with Mallory Blackman!the childrens' laureate. What an amazing woman! It really cheered me up. If you want to listen to a positive ,lively soul don 't miss it on I player .

I listened to this as well and it was one of the best Desert Islands Discs I've heard for a long time. She was so full of life and humour, and not at all pretentious.

I sometimes go on the Desert Island Discs website and listen to the 'back' ones whilst I am doing ironing or other mundane tasks. You can pick one out from years back as well as recent and listen. It's lovely. I will listen to this one.

It was good, but really wish she hadn't kept using the word "Hubby"!

Reminds me of someone........grin

Agree about'hubby',but better than 'other half' IMO.

yes very strange for a Londoner of her generation. Enjoyed the bit I caught in the car.

katyK exactly! I have to go on my exercise bike every other day and boredom was always a challenge. Since I have downloaded the Desert Island Discs Archive onto an old lap top (bought on e-bay)I really enjoy listening and manage to forget I'm peddling for the 15 mins I have to do it.

Margaret - I think it's great, makes the chore a lot more enjoyable. I just go onto the Website click on whoever I fancy listening to and move my ironing board into the computer room. I listened to Dawn French's the other day - lovely.

Right! Dawn French next time. Thx.
