What would you consider clean?

I agree that Waitrose standards of hygiene have lowered since the free coffee came into being. I am guilty, taking a cup, not buying anything to eat and occupying a space at a table.

My beef with Waitrose is Scores on the Doors is a 5 but the cakes, pastries etc are exposed to all coughs and sneezes. Yuk.

I took my children to MacDonalds 30 odd years ago and it was filthy. I haven't been in a MacDs since. Haven't missed it. Go somewhere else. There are much more pleasant places to eat than a supermarket caff.

At least these days there are not usually fag ends around.

The parts of my kitchen where food is prepared or things it is eaten from get cleaned whenever they are used/ every day. The rest doesn't. We don't eat off the floor or windowsills.

Yes, I agree, a clean restaurant is more attractive to eat in.

More importantly – how often is the kitchen cleaned?

thatbags I don't mind a bit of muck on a wild picnic at all. However when I have paid for a restaurant or cafe I do expect it to be clean.
Not though to have the cups tasting of bleach which I have noticed more and more lately.

You cannot expect to get away with cleaning a restaurant only once a week!
Even my kitchen gets cleaned more than that.

Shame about the dirty windowsills and windows, but you didn't have to eat off the windowsills, did you? Didn't they give you a (clean) plate? Think wild picnic and you'll cope with a bit of surrounding dirt.

I am shocked at this revelation of Waitrose squalour. Ours is a small one, so has no café - just as well. Good idea to email the top brass and tell them what you think about it on FB. They will respond to bad publicity.

Our local Waitrose cafe often has tables piled high with dirty crockery and the floor has bits of food on it. The staff can't cope with the workload. So many customers now Waitrose give free coffee.

Good idea Nonnie. I'm not a FB person, but come to think of it Waitrose bombard me with e mails so I think I'll send them one. X

If you post your comments on their Facebook page they will very quickly do something about it. I don't think this is typical of Waitrose, must be bad management at the one you visited.

Perhaps the secret is in the name. You want it cleaning? Wait Rose, it's not due till the end of the week.
I wonder if it applies to other areas of the said shop?
