Because this morning on my way into work I was involved in a car incident, when a young woman sped out of a side road without looking and my taxi had to take avoiding action. We ended up in the hedge and she blithely carried on her uncaring way!
We caught up with her in the golf car park where my driver remonstrated with her, stating that he had an ELDERLY passenger who had been shaken by her carelessness!
ELDERLY! It put me in a bad mood all day!

Oh, and sorry, meant to add that I'm glad you weren't hurt, bones get brittle when you're getting on a bit I understand!

Galen Mon 25-Nov-13 22:18:28

He wouldn't dare! I'd have beaten him up? Elderly! Humph !!!!

NfkDumpling Mon 25-Nov-13 22:15:28

Oh dear, poor man. When he was only trying to make her feel bad. At least he did say you were hysterical or fainting with shock!

Galen Mon 25-Nov-13 22:09:40

Me? No! Just very indignant at being described as 'elderly' , as I've let him know!!!!!!!!!

Nelliemoser Mon 25-Nov-13 21:50:07

Galen he was probably just doing his best to make the woman feel suitably guilty. You really are not having much luck lately. I hope you were not too shaken.

Galen I bought a lovely cosy pair of thermal tights but I can't wear them because it hurts my bad finger and bruised hand to try to put them on. I am OK (with care) with knee-length socks so will wear an angora pair from sockshop on line ( had also bought over-knee socks as a compromise but have not even taken them out of the packet. The circumference of the thigh bit looks as though it is made for a fragile Chinese girl, not me.)

Galen Mon 25-Nov-13 21:31:42

Erm! Pregnant? NO!!!!!!!!!!!

sunseeker Mon 25-Nov-13 21:30:48

Glad you weren't hurt Galen - as for being elderly - I'm shocked that anyone could think of you in those terms shock

absent Mon 25-Nov-13 21:30:09

Galen Glad to hear that there are no injuries. Obviously, your driver wanted to make the other driver feel really ashamed of herself so he used every comment he could think of – including the patently wrong "elderly", prbably because "pregnant" wouldn't have been so effective.

Galen Mon 25-Nov-13 21:29:21

Leggings or jeggings? Don't have either!
Only taking what I'm wearing and clean undies as can't carry more in small backpack.
Really looking forward to meeting all of you! who haven only been names up til now!smile

janeainsworth Mon 25-Nov-13 21:11:41

Oh and my new Stars and Stripes bobble hat!
Looking forward to meeting you!

janeainsworth Mon 25-Nov-13 21:09:36

It's perishing Galengrin
Sadly I can't join you on the Saturday evening, so have not had the usual deliberations about gowns and pearls, but it will be boots, thick tights, thermal underwear, sweater and pinafore dress on Sunday, with my padded coat, scarf and gloves if required as back up.
Hope that helps grin

Marelli Mon 25-Nov-13 21:06:04

Wear your warmest pearls, Galen. A full-length evening dress with a nice thick jumper over the top, as well as a warm vest underneath it, and you should be just fine - oh, and of course - leggings....wink!

Galen Mon 25-Nov-13 21:04:46

My driver Bob and I have known each other for getting on for 20 years. I want really upset, but I must admit, I hadn't thought of myself as 'elderly' he's only a year younger than me anyway!

Galen Mon 25-Nov-13 21:02:17

hmm how cold is it up there? What's everybody wearing? Do I bring full length evening dress or thick sweaters?
Most important, which pearls do I wear?confused

Marelli Mon 25-Nov-13 20:16:44

shock -thank goodness you weren't hurt, Galen! Your feelings, yes - but not you. You're headed for Edinburgh at the end of this week!

celebgran Mon 25-Nov-13 19:45:30

Oh dear Galen would upset me too he was insensitive but wanted to berate the driver I guess, oh help I am the big 60 next year so I will be ultra sensitive.

gracesmum Mon 25-Nov-13 19:45:07

ON the train to London once the ticket collector really brightened everyone's day. A lady, possibly in her 70's with a lovely head of thick white hair proffered her Senior Railcard and he stopped, queried it and said "You are a very naughty person........................................... borrowing your mother's railcard !" She was taken aback for a split second and then she and the whole carriage erupted in laughter! smile

janeainsworth Mon 25-Nov-13 19:22:48

Well Galen I feel hurt every time I use my bus pass and the driver fails to question my eligibility!! grin
Have another wine!!

KatyK Mon 25-Nov-13 19:16:05

Take no notice Galen. I think we take more notice of the negative comments. I bet you get lots of positive ones too. I do. Take the nice
ones on board and let the negatives go over your head smile

Galen Mon 25-Nov-13 19:09:59

I'm not even 69 until next week angry

KatyK Mon 25-Nov-13 19:09:32

Lovely when it happens that way Maggie. Well, I am not one to blow my own trumpet I assure you. I had been through my traumatic hair loss a while before and had got my hair sorted, with a nice blonde bob. If I say so myself I look years younger than I did without my hair, I am 64, I am tall and not overweight, hardly any wrinkles. (This is not bragging, my self-esteem had been non-existent with the hair trauma). For the first time in years I was beginning to feel OK again and someone comes along and pees on my bonfire! Grrrrrrr

rockgran Mon 25-Nov-13 19:08:53

Being thought old is what hurts most. It's like that joke....
"You are an interfering, nasty, selfish, cruel, old busybody!"
"Hey, less of the 'old' ! "

Maggiemaybe Mon 25-Nov-13 19:00:17

That happened to me once when I was out with my sister, KatyK. Happily it was the other way round, so I was secretly quite chuffed! She's 13 years older than me, though - there was obviously absolutely no excuse in your case. smile

ffinnochio Mon 25-Nov-13 18:56:11

Considered elderly or not, v. pleased no injuries galen ........excluding sensitivities of course. wink
