Nelson Mandela has died!
A great statesman.
We mourn his death!

We obviously had the same idea at the same time. Sorry.

How very sad - a wonderful man and an inspiration. R.I.P Nelson Mandela

LizG Thu 05-Dec-13 22:20:35

A wonderful man.

I can't do links.
Can someone link the lovely SA anthem?

annodomini Thu 05-Dec-13 22:34:55

Here it is Galen

Here it is in all its glory, before they bastardised it. A very touching version.

The greatest man of our lifetime. I thought it was sad that he was not allowed to die of his pneumonia when it first struck him.

I think yours is the one I prefer, Jess. It reminds me of the film, Cry Freedom. It always makes me well up.

The one really love is the first nor that comes up on Google, with sa flag.
It's faster and includes all three languages

On the day they were premiering the film of his life.

As long as the world exists and remembers and learns about its past, he will be revered.

Someone described him as a saint. He said, not a saint but a sinner who kept on trying - which is the definition of a saint.

Galen Thu 05-Dec-13 22:49:37

We will remember him.

Indeed an amazing man. RIP to his eventful and very long life.

That national anthem gets me in tears as well. The African way of singing it has such fantastic harmonies.

I was only today reading a piece in the DT where his daughter said what an inspiration she found him, she actually said a phrase along the lines of "for want of a better word, his deathbed"

A truly strong and farsighted man.

One of those rare politicians who put the people of his country first and stayed true to his beliefs about freedom and justice.

Oldgreymare Thu 05-Dec-13 23:09:17

A wonderful man. He made a long walk to freedom and freed many.

Galen Thu 05-Dec-13 23:31:51

Nkosi Ikeleli Africa!

An area of Glasgow City Centre had an address change years ago to Nelson Mandela Place in honour of this truly wonderful man. He will be sadly missed.

A very special person, may he be remembered for all that he did, and the things that he stood and strived for be acknowledged, achieved and celebrated.
