Has anyone read the article by Victoria Coren Mitchell about John Diamond in The Observer today? It made me smile and decide that I want someone like VCM to write about me when I pop my clogs. Then I reasoned that I'd need to be as life-grabbing as John Diamond clearly was to be worth writing about! I only knew him from the programmes he did during his fight with cancer but I should imagine that Charles Saatchi is a poor replacement and can't blame Nigella for wanting to get lost in a fog occasionally!

I used to read his column during his illness and he sounded like a very special person- highly intelligent, loving, warm and humorous and very very brave- not a shred of the whining petulance Saatchi is manifesting.

John Diamond came over as a lovely chap when I used to read his column
in The Times, and when he developed cancer he wrote so movingly about
his everyday life with it, and yet without self pity or sentiment. Nigella was a huge support to him in every way. I've admired her ever since.
I don't like Saatchi one little bit!

I really admired John Diamond, he was so witty, and is the only person that I haven't known personally whose death made me cry
I remember him saying in his column after his diagnosis ' yes I do smoke! '- this led to me giving up.....

I was very impressed by John Diamond's writing and always wondered why on earth Nigella married Saatchi. I thought she'd have done better coping on her own.

i'm a Victoria Coren fan, and enjoyed her article about John Diamond very much. I loved the way it ended 'Team Nigella'.

I was a fan of John Diamond too and am really glad that Victoria Coren wrote the article as many younger people wouldn't have known of him.

As to Nigella marrying Saatchi, who knows. He seemed a very different personality from John but I guess he was (is?) an intelligent intellectual man, had pots of money (she hadn't yet made her independent fortune at the time of John's death) and maybe she also saw him as a father to her very young children. She obv came to regret her decision and is paying for it now by being hounded in Court.

I think Nigella married Saatchi for much the same reasons as Jackie Kennedy married Onassis. Both beautiful women were trophy wives.

My admiration for the way Nigella coped in court last week knew no bounds. She was brilliant.

Gagagran I agree - she was formidable - and two full days in the witness box.
