2 Possible threads?

Threads, not forums, I mean.

We all have hints and tips (as opposed to hips and, well, you know) that we use at Christmas.

How do people feel about 2 threads, 1 Christmas hints (non food) and another Christmas food hints?

Just testing the water!

That'll be "no" then!

Ana Sun 15-Dec-13 19:50:03

Well, I wasn't going to say anything...wink

Elegran Sun 15-Dec-13 20:00:59

it could be difficult to keep people to the point. It has proved so on many other threads.

Bez Sun 15-Dec-13 20:15:57

Good idea if people used threads as intended. X x

Gransnetters stray from the point? As if! tchgrin

PRINTMISS Mon 16-Dec-13 09:23:34

Surely straying from the point is what 'chat' is all about - after all, how many of you might possibly arrange lunch with a friend and the how often does the 'chat' remain on one subject, one thing leads to another as they say, and so it should, makes life interesting.

Nonu Mon 16-Dec-13 09:30:58

I am also of the opinion that "chat" does stray away .
We are going to lunch and we will cover a variety of topics !
tchsmile

Soutra Mon 16-Dec-13 10:55:34

nonu you are always going out to lunch!! Talk about ladies who lunch!![tchgrin| I bet the conversation will range over a variety of subjects - then get back to slaving over that hot stove tchgrin

I now "lucky blighter" . Think this may be the last one !
Anyway when I think of the marathon "Cook-In" over Christmas , I Blink"n deserve it . Don"t you agree ?

Sorry, phoenix , I would have replied yesterday and said yes, good idea. My number 1 tip would have been to USE THE GUARD on the mandoline when slicing stuff for coleslaw, since the reason I was not around to answer was that I was busy dripping blood everywhere from a sliced finger .... Stoopid, stoopid. Actually, I love reading other people's tips, especially for very busy times. Go for it.

Anne58 Mon 16-Dec-13 12:34:53

Ouch! That made my toes go all scrunched up!

JessM Mon 16-Dec-13 12:57:17

Phoenix if you want to start threads, start threads, don't start threads about starting threads grin
If they wither on the vine, shrug and move on. tchsmile

As the jeweller said - "If you vonna buy a votch, buy a votch. If you don't vonna buy a votch, don't buy a votch. But stop pressing your snotty nose against the vindows of my votch shop!"

I don'tmean you have a snotty nose, Phoenix I was just reminded of my grandfather saying that tens of years ago.

Icyalittle Mon 16-Dec-13 13:34:12

smile smile elegran Sorry to do that to your toes phoenix it didn't do a lot for mine either. Anyway, I want to know what your best hint is?

Anne58 Mon 16-Dec-13 14:19:01

A couple of non-food ones:

Keep the cardboard tubes from wrapping paper and wind your fairy lights round them for storing (prevents tangles)

If children start asking for practically every toy they see, but you want to keep the Father Christmas thing going, tell them that now they are 5, 6, whatever, Mummy & Daddy have to send the money to FC who then delivers the presents. (Did this with both mine, seemed to work!)

If FC leaves the presents at the foot of the bed, and you want to minimise the risk of Christmas Day starting at 2am, use a matching pair of sacks/pillow cases, one on the foot of the bed, it's twin already filled and hidden in your wardrobe. Set your alarm for 5.30, 6am (whatever suits) do the big switch and enjoy a quiet cup of tea in peace before the fun starts.

When I was with exdh we did this, but after a few minutes he would get fidgety and go and wake the boys up with cries of "Look, he's been!"

Those are great phoenix. Great idea about the fairy lights. I swear the fairies take 'em out and play with them during the year, to tangle them all up. I now make sure I pack things away in reverse order, e.g. to be able to start hanging Christmas cards on my fabric bows as they arrive, without having to get everything else out too early. And if you are buying /making stockings don't go too large, or it is a rod for your own back later. (And make two, as phoenix suggests!)

There is a big difference between Chats and Discussions.

Chats should not always stick to a "thread" Discussions should.

The whole delight of a chat is that they do go off at tangents, and get humorous or more serious as the mood takes us.

PRINTMISS Mon 16-Dec-13 15:49:20

That is very true Nellie, and discussions are always interesting, but do, on occasions vere from the subject matter - I am sure there are many chair-persons here who know of the pit-falls!

Anne58 Mon 16-Dec-13 15:53:25

More like prat falls in my case!
