Me too Galen and Nonu with the addition of glass dangly things* tied on with narrow blue ribbon. *eat your heart out Kirsty Allsop, they are the crystals from old chandeliers..... ..... and before you say anything Jingle NO! the chandeliers were NOT mine!!!!!
When I was in Germany I bought some gold "angel hair" to drape artistically along the tree branches. I really liked it until a friend (who was with me at the time) referred to it as angel bum fluff. Can't quite see it in the same light any more
We always had Lametta when I was a child - very popular in Germany. I try to have a colour theme - either all gold baubles or red and gold. Tried all silver one year but it looked much too cold. I also like adding a decoration or two each year - my favourites (again from Germany) are little glass bells tied in pairs with gold cord which just sit on the ends of the branches. Haven't bought the tree yet - have had 2 nightmares already that it was Christmas morning and I had forgotten both the tree and the turkey
Most of my tree decorations are old ones collected over the years. I like them that way. I go for the nostalgic look, not purple and silver trendy.
We have just put the tree up. DH put the lights on and some of the decorations on whilst I was out at choir. It's an artificial tree this year and we have tried to toddler proof it as far as we can from the predations of a 15 mth old small boy. How about an xmas tree picture thread. I am busy tomorrow and cannot get my tree finished until later Wednesday but I will start one if no one else has.
Lametta was a trade name way back. When we were kids (ie more than 60 years ago) we went every year to Woolworths to buy it. There are probably other brands but the 'real' Lametta was very thin strips of tinsel which we more or less slung at the tree hoping some of it would stick! We did have a very cavalier approach to tree dressing.
