I used to keep a wrapped bottle of wine and a box of chocolates in the car when visiting friends around Christmas. That way if they surprised us with a present, I could say "Oh heavens, I've left yours in the car!" Then nip out to get it and give it to them, moaning about how the gift tag had fallen off and was under the seat.
