Oh Lor' Ginny I didn't realise our respective DGs had worked together. Nicholas's film had a very appreciative reception at the Much Snoring Art House cinema and it was no mean featrto win a one handed canoe race up the Dordogne when in full spate. His clothes are very nearly drying out as I speak tchgrin

I've just received one from a very verbose friend and didn't understand half of it. However, she has just become a grandma and that's the bit I enjoyed hearing about. I'm always glad to hear from friends and don't mind the RR but close typed on two sides can be a bit of a struggle. Keep it brief and funny, I say - or just write more often!

I detest the things. Get a couple every Christmas. Never read them. tchhmm

Mine has been a very quiet year I'm afraid. After my elevation to the peerage I was asked to become chief adviser to the government.
DC is a real cuddly honeybun, but he's his head in the clouds I'm afraid.
He's going round telling people that he's very popular and certain to win the next election ?
As his adviser I've suggested the name of a really good psychiatrist to him as I'm afraid he's suffering from serious delusions. (He actually thinks he's doing a good job of running the country, how bad can he get?)
I'm afraid though he won't take my advice and turns to a spiritualist called Clagg or something like that, instead. He seems to think he can raise the liberal party from the dead!
Good luck to him I say lol!
Oh well! Must go now Samantha wants advice on what to wear for Christmas dinner with her Maj!
See you next year

I have a relative whose family are so high powered as to be stratospheric - can't wait till she gets GC! She and her husband annually explore the far-flung corners of the world. In fact, I don't think there's anywhere they haven't been! I know all this because of her annual RR. Strangely enough, we get on very well when we meet - but I can't compete with their travels and doctorates. So I don't.

We have just had one from someone that my DH worked with years back. It goes on about a company that is going from strength to strength and some grandchildren we didn't even know he had. The fact that Lynns' (whoever she is) Mum died. Someone called Nicholas who has a part in a film we have never heard of and a canoe race he won on holiday in the Dordogne. Obviously he has never picked up on the fact that we couldn't stand him then and never think of him now.

Have any of you read "The Cat that Could Open the Fridge" by Simon Hoggart? It is full of dreadful RRs that people sent to him, and very amusing.

Will compose mine when I get back from lunch, after wine!

Sorry you've had such a quiet year phoenix perhaps 2014 will be more exciting.
Congratulations all round soutra although I'm a bit worried that Daryl may be overdoing it. Perhaps he should have a term off and get a proper rest.

Dearest friends, I take up my pen to share with you all the events of the last year. In truth, we have had some challenges to face. Persephone, who's congratulatory first should have led to great things, decided to join a commune and she is applying the deeper principles of Marxist- Leninism to the problems of sharing out the brown rice and lentils in a more equitable manner. We fear she is doomed to failure.

Horatio, on the other hand, has put his entrepreneurial skills to an interesting use. We await the verdict of the Patent Office but we are all in trepidation in case his indispensable invention of the 'LadyLoo' is found to be in breach. It will spell ruin.

Nevertheless the grandchildren continue to delight. We are so grateful that our dearest Maud finds her womanly satisfaction in her children. The eighth child (a girl) was born in October and we glad that we are able to help out with reclaiming and recycling items from the municipal tip. It's truly surprising how many realiy beautiful items are discarded in this day and age. It keeps my dearest Humphrey busy with sanding down and repainting and varnishing. We laughingly tell him that in his next incarnation he should be a born again carpenter. How seasonal is that?

Christmas inevitably will be a little subdued this year. We hope for better outcomes in 2014, but in the meantime if you have any old furniture, legal expertise or spare vegan food, all the family would be loud in their thanks. X

This was DH's sister's Round Robin last year.

'I don't do phone calls any more. You can keep in touch via e-mail but I don't bother with facebook. You can let me know all your news if you like and I might reply.'

DH received a birthday card from her a month later and that's the last we've heard from her!!

No Christmas card this year but I sent one so my conscience is clear.

Nowt so queer!! tchhmm

Hi guys
Soz not been in touch since last Chrimbo but busy with Kylie and the triplets - bit of a squeeze in the flat but the Sosh have said they can get her a house in the New Year, for her, the boys, the girls,Dwuyane and of course Gnasher. Dwuyane's not actually out yet but with good behaviour should be about by June just in time for the new baby. LOL!! We're all really well, Kev got on really well in rehab and has hardly had a drop since (well not the hard stuff, just a few beers of an afternoon before going down the pub). He might go back to work soon but what's the point eh, better off indoors what with the cost of petrol for the Merc. and he hasn't got his licence back yet anyhow. Daryl is doing really well at school - he's been three times already sonce September and is getting well good at reading and speelling speeling spelling.Knows how to spell ABSO ASBO though! LOL! Chip off of his ole mum eh? LOL!! Gotta do a bit of Chrimbo shoplifting shopping soon. Seen a nice 125 inch telly down that John Lewis which would go lovely in the lounge and the old 99 inch one could go in our bedroom then. Wot you doin' for Chrimbo then? We thought we might go abroad - maybe the Costa (no! LOL not the coffy shop!!) or maybe the Maldives. Dunno where they are but my tan needs toppin up since we got back from Africa I think it was in October. Gotta go now, Shazza been down the food bank and got a load of stuff I need to put away . Good thing got one of those big Yank fridge freezers eh? (But it was a hell of a job getting it under my coat down Comet)
Well, love ya an leave ya - have a good one!!tchgrin

petallus Wed 18-Dec-13 13:03:49

That's amusing grin

You didn't say anything about your childrens' wonderful academic achievements though and their musical talent.

In a recent round robin from a friend of ours I counted about ten 'wonderfuls' on one A 4 sheet.

Hi everyone, I do apologise for not putting our news inside the cards, but, phew! what a busy time I have had!

It all started when DH gave me an early prezzie. You know that thing where you can have a star named after someone? Well of course that wasn't enough for DH! He whisked me off in the space shuttle to actually go & see it! I must say that solved a mystery, I thought he'd been working late advising David (& of course dear little Nick!) about the legal implications of intervening in the Middle East, but no! He'd been secretly training to fly the shuttle, which of course he did brilliantly. It was so romantic, just the two of us up there in space, although he did bring along Paul Burrell (you remember him, butler to the late dear Diana, serves a brilliant champagne cocktail, but a little familiar for my taste) to serve the nibbles.

That of course was only the start! We then went to the Guerlain perfume house, as DH had read something in the paper about having an exclusive perfume designed based on your personality, a bargain at £20k. I must say, the one they came up with was soooooo me! A base note of old flannel, a mere hint of waffle finished with a top note of merde de bull. (The tanker of it should arrive next week)

Of course, as you can imagine, I was a tad worried about the children, but of course DH had it all in hand. He'd got Gina Ford & that super nanny woman working in shifts, although I can't imagine that they would have had much to do, as ds & dd were planning to spend Christmas working on their proposals to solve the world energy/global warming problem before writing their thank you letters. (so nice for them to have something to bond over, don't you think?)

The other advantage with us being out of the way for a while was it gave the Harrods window dressing team time to finish off the decorations around the house. It did look nice, but I was forever on at those 2 nice women from "How Clean is Your House" to get the diamond fairy dust out of the corners.

My other worry was the catering, but luckily DH had been having coffee with David Attenborough the other week, who had let slip that he knew where the last breeding pair of dodos were to be found, so problem solved! Of course Gordon's (need I be more specific?) language reached new peaks when presented with them, but with dear Jamie in charge of veg. & good old reliable Delia in charge of all things sweet it all went swimmingly.

After a delicious lunch (I must say Ainsley did marvels with the washing up) we all settled back to relax & enjoy ourselves. I thought Elton sounded a tad tired, but Robbie was his usual exuberant self, bless him. Derren Brown did a few tricks to amuse the younger members of the gathering. Billy's jokes were quite funny, even though the older members of the family did need subtitles for the Glasgow accent.

Anyway, must go as I've got Stella coming round to do another fitting on my dress for David & Victorias New Years Eve bash.

Byeeee!
