It's really blowing here and I now have hailstones coming down my chimney.
To cap it all, I've lost my satellite signal while watching the ten plagues of Egypt.
Is this sympathetic magic?

Picking up daughter coming from Luton airport tonight, hope flights won't be affected too much (: Geneva airport at Christmas is pandemonium enough, with all the ski tourists arriving.

Very windy here not in Eastern France- but sunny and warm. Lots of snow forecast for tomorrow, but I can't see it happening really?
Stay safe all.

I am in Wiltshire. Fences down, felt ripped off my shed, leaks in the passage, but the lights are on, the house is warm and hopefully the washing machine repair man will turn up.

Charleygirl Tue 24-Dec-13 08:38:38

What a night in NW London. Roof and fences intact and as I can use this machine I obviously have electricity. I also live on the top of a slope so any water gushes past me. No rivers or lakes thank goodness, but my front "lawn" resembles a mud bath.

I do not think that I will move from the comfort of my home today. I am on my own so if I have forgotten anything I doubt if I will starve.

It has all stopped - very quiet now after the batterings yesterday!

Thanks for the warning Soutra, hope it`s not needed, but it IS blowing a gale here. Hope it dies down a bit by morning, have to go into town for a few bits, can`t miss out on my mince pies from Curtis`s, they`re better than home made. Hope everyone is safe tonight.

Tegan Mon 23-Dec-13 23:58:45

It's awful in Derby. At least none of my family are travelling anywhere today. Couldn't get any money from the Post Office today because they kept losing connections due to the wind. I'm glad I can't see the tree next to my house, but I'm going to sleep downstairs tonight just in case.

Soutra Mon 23-Dec-13 23:39:53

I think it has passed us by now but still worried about how DDs and SILs and grand dog are going to manage to get here from London as SIL's pick-up has packed up (ha ha) and they are going to have to come by train (assuming there are some) tchsad

Nonu Mon 23-Dec-13 21:25:29

Soutra Mon 23-Dec-13 20:34:23

Kiora Mon 23-Dec-13 18:57:22

Phew glad your family are with you. Bet the view is lovely on a clear day. I know the weather is unseasonably horrible and lots of people are worried about the consequences but isn't there something cosy about being in a warm house in this weather

Brendawymms Mon 23-Dec-13 18:51:39

Yes Kiora have DH,DD and 2 little DGC here. We live on the top of the Weald and there is nothing between us and the English Channel. The main problem with today's weather is that the high winds and gusts have gone on for hours and do not peak until 01.00 tomorrow. The 1987 hurricane was terrible here and I think today's weather is a close second. Have got torches and candles out ready in the hope they will not be needed.

I was surprised that the trains out of Kings Cross were cancelled this morning because in Hertfordshire it wasn't too bad. Some of my staff couldn't come in and missed their Christmas lunch. The news last night suggested people should travel early this morning!!! Well, perhaps they would have had there been a train tchconfused. However, it's getting blustery now and has become wet but I've known a lot worse so we're very lucky here - so far! I think the weather always seems worse when it's dark.
At least the shortest day has been and gone.

Kiora Mon 23-Dec-13 17:42:21

Ohh Brenda I hope your ok I hate to think of you being frightened is someone with you?

Brendawymms Mon 23-Dec-13 17:09:49

The house seemed to shake during last gust! Lights keep flickering. Help.!

dollie Mon 23-Dec-13 15:16:33

really strong winds on the southcoast ...i just had to go out to move the wheelie bins into the shed ...i nearly got blown over myself!!! quite scary!

withany Mon 23-Dec-13 13:48:09

Very windy and lashing rain here in South Wales, the water is just rushing down the mountain road like a waterfall. Dogs still wanted to go out as usual, so I braced myself and ventured about 400 yds that was it we were all very wet, thankfully I put their coats on, not that they were keen but it kept their backs dry. Looks like its going to get worse so the weather forecaster says, and they smile as they say it!! candles at the ready, also bought a couple of camping lamps thought at least I could read then instead of just sitting in the dark. Lets hope it blows itself out before anyone is hurt, or killed, going to have a brew and batten down the hatches take care everyone.

Brendawymms Mon 23-Dec-13 13:26:28

Weather deteriorating rapidly here in East Sussex. Daughter and 3DGC have gone home before it gets worse. Hope everyone in the south and the Hebrides come through OK. Sent before wind takes out phone line and therefore internet.

granjura Mon 23-Dec-13 13:16:54

We live 400m from the FRench border.

granjura Mon 23-Dec-13 13:16:33

eGJ not quite the foehn, but it is 12C- which is not normal for this time of year. BTW, it's called 'vin chaud' here smile

So sorry to hear the weather is really poor your way- I'm sure we will get our comeuppance soon. Stay safe.

Kiora Mon 23-Dec-13 12:58:41

It's getting very bad here. The wind is really picking up. We'll be safe though. I don't have any trees near the house. There's no chance of flooding because I live on the top of a sloping road. My only minor worry is my daughter and her two boys are driving down from the midlands tonight. I hope those of you who are worried manage to keep safe. The weathers hardly seasonal is it. I ventured out this morning and it's manic so what I haven't got ill do without.

Mishap Mon 23-Dec-13 12:47:18

Worryingly bad here - we have just phoned the lengthsman as there is a definite risk of flooding - we know all about that here! Fingers crossed that it eases off soon.

Hope you all stay dry.

Anne58 Mon 23-Dec-13 12:41:38

Absolutely horrid here! Heavy rain and very windy.

AlieOxon Mon 23-Dec-13 12:37:03

Looks like set rain for the day here.
Gardener man came and helped batten down for now.

I have to go out and have bloods taken!

glammanana Mon 23-Dec-13 12:16:50

Terrible weather here fronting The Mersey I do hope it eases off a bit before high tide as all those people who live near the front will be flooded again and they have only just got over the bad floods from 2 weeks ago.Everyone take care if you have to go out anywhere.
