Still a fine bright day here, although the dear little fluffy white clouds of early morning have joined together in an ominous white line over the mountains behind us. I have been keeping an eye on them as I've been compulsively washing everything that isn't nailed down so that there'll be no dirty washing in the house over Christmas. tchconfused

Supermarkets no busier than usual today. Probably be crowded tomorrow morning then every thing will shut until Thursday although some will make a longer holiday of it.

Mamie, our original weather station was perfect in every way except for insisting that it was raining on hot sunny days.
The new one just resets itself at midnight which means I have to remember to write down the maximums before then. tchsmile

Hope everyone keeps safe and dry in the bad weather.

Raining here in the north east, was bitterly cold during the night. Went to Sainsbury's at 8.30 and it was difficult to get into the car park, a lot of empty shelves and di not get the salad stuff I wanted.
Went to Aldi and what a difference, lovely vegetables piled high, swedes at less than half the price of Sainsbury's. I spent 15 minutes in the shop and came away with everything I went for and even better spent only 5 minutes in the queue to pay because all the girls are super fast tchsmile

I think everyone had the same idea here. We had to queue for three minutes in Lidl and four in Leclerc. Really quite outrageous. shock

Sounds good Mick.

I got to the butchers at 8.15 (thought I'd get there before the rush tchgrin) and I was still queueing on the pavement outside at 9.30 in the wind and rain. Back home now and off to get the final fresh stuff. It's stll howling a gale and pickling down here.

The best news is that there are men here fitting my new dishwasher - yippee!

Enjoy your days everyone tchsmile

Winds are coming in from the west here in Brackley, did a small supermarket trip, packed to the hilt in local waitrose, panic buying people forget Friday is a normal day both supermarkets and banks open on that day plus also tomorrow, its wet and windy here.
I am in the warm of my Anchor flat.

We did the supermarket run at 6.30am to avoid the forecast gales and torrential rain which have not yet turned up here in SW Hampshire! Lots of standing water and massive puddles everywhere en route, but it's mild. The land is saturated and I fear there will be flooding for some poor souls.

Tesco was heaving and the aisles were full of staff doing the online orders AND restacking shelves so it was a bit chaotic. It's done now and what isn't bought will stay un-bought. One nice couple I chatted to in the checkout queue said their DD went to Morrisons yesterday and did her shopping in 10 minutes then had to queue for an hour at the checkout! Not a problem in Tesco - all the tills were staffed and fairly speedy.

Going to make up the beds now for DS, DiL and DGC who are coming to stay.Hurrah!

Amber warning in place, battening down the hatches! (Somerset)

Wild, windy and dark in Brum

Rain lashing down, wind swiftly building here in Devon. Don't have to go out, thank goodness!

Charleygirl Mon 23-Dec-13 09:12:39

It has been raining in NW London during the night. It is dark but mild at present. I imagine that this is the calm before the storm. I cannot be bothered going out for bits I forgot when my on line shop was delivered on Saturday, I will make do with the scraps of food I have.

Kiora Mon 23-Dec-13 09:01:47

Morning all. Grey again here in kent. It's very mild but the wind is starting to pick up now. Fingers crossed my daughter and 2 G.S driving down from the midlands very late tonight will have a good journey. Keep safe all of you xx

Good morning from cheshire. It's in creasingly windy here grey but not yet raining. Good luck to you southwester!s It sound as if you will be getting the worst of this yet again.
My family are coming from the deepest Sussex and Yorkshire on Friday I am just hoping the roads over the Peak District will not be closed by snow.

Brendawymms Mon 23-Dec-13 08:33:22

Morning from East Sussex. The lull before the storm here. Not due to get the worst until later. I am not sure if the weather gets a little over egged these days so no one can say they were not warned. It's a little breezy at the moment with light drizzle. If the weather is anything like Saturday it will be bad.
The houses rain water goes into a huge soak away under the front lawn but it's full and overflowing had to make some small channels in the grass to help in drain away down the drive. We have land drains across the back garden but these are not coping and the grass is saturated. Good job we live on the top of a hill.
Five grandchildren here today the oldest is nine so not a quiet day.

PRINTMISS Mon 23-Dec-13 08:16:11

Good morning to you you, it is very still here, quite unexpected because the weather forecast was that it would be raining heavily (not complaining!), so we might be able to go to collect our turkey after all, otherwise leave it till tomorrow. Last of the present packing to get through today, not many gifts as we only do family, but the other half gets a bit confused about who has what, and he is the one who does the wrapping, so has to be carefully watched. Enjoy your days.

Aka Mon 23-Dec-13 08:07:46

Bracing ourselves for the storm that is forecasted. Hope everyone further south is all right today.

Mamie Mon 23-Dec-13 07:47:10

More technically temperature is 9.3c, wind at 6.3kph, humidity 82%, pressure 1001 and falling.
The weather station sensor will stop working when it rains!

Bez Mon 23-Dec-13 07:19:15

Good morning everyone - mist on the fields this morning.

Mamie Mon 23-Dec-13 07:18:59

Quite gusty here already. This old stone house is creaking and because the upstairs was once a grain store, there is a faint whiff of a brewery. Looking at next weekend's weather, we have changed our long ferry crossing to the UK to the tunnel. Good luck to all in the path of this one.

Bellasnana Mon 23-Dec-13 07:16:55

Good morning everyone. It is cloudy and windy here today. Have a good day one and all sunshine

ffinnochio Mon 23-Dec-13 07:10:49

Good morning all. Dark, calm and dry here. Hoping those of you in the path of the approaching Atlantic storm will weather it well.
