Mine was a plastic box from Poundland . The sort that has lots of little sections for sorting screws and a tight fitting lid. My husband made a special trip out to buy it for me after I had told him I had just seen a tip about using one as a paint palette.

Sorry, meant MS, she has lost feeling in her hands and feet.

janerowena Thu 26-Dec-13 22:45:46

grin I love the image of you going around collecting all metallic objects. I am now worried about a friend with ME and can't handle earrings, I bought her several sets of metallic earrings to try out. I hope her earrings don't get pulled off her ears if she bends too close to a pushchair or even a car.

Blimey; I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps they're trying to get rid of me to inherit my vast fortune shock!

My best Christmas present every year is when my daughter and her family come up and I have everyone under the same roof, all safe and sound. I love that feeling.

But actual present wise, I have a pair of bearpaw sheepskin boots from DBH to replace the ones the mice ate when he left the eaves hatch door open one day. They are beautiful and so warm. Almost as wonderful is a beautiful canvas and leather gardening apron with a large leather pocket at the front that takes secateurs, a pair of which were in the pocket as well, I hope the apron will mean that I shan't leave yet another pair in the garden, left to rust unseen for months. A close third is a beautiful big hand crafted blue glass star, my first ever Christmas present from my son bought with his own money. I was very lucky this year, I had some lovely gifts and my notoriously picky mother actually liked hers, a double bonus! I hope my sisters were as lucky.

Pieces of cutlery...? Sounds like that scene from 'Carrie' tchshock

Tegan Thu 26-Dec-13 22:07:03

Have been given a magnetic necklace and bracelet by my kids. Problem is that they keep attracting things like pieces of cutlery and paper clips as I'm walking around the house. If I go ouside wearing them I might find myself attached to someone on a bus or try to get on a bus but find myself attached to the bus stop confused. Oh, and if I put my hand next to my neck they attack themselves to each other; if I had two bracelets they would look like handcuffs.

A Christmas Box from both DDs, containing lots of of small, wrapped surprise presents for DH and me,including best of all a homemade photo album labelled (in suitably Christmas colours) I Remember When.... full of photos of Christmases past from when they were both children. Some including pets and family members no longer with us and bringing back very happy memories.

My two best presents were a very pretty hand made bracelet with green semi precious stones (magnatite?) that one of my old school friends gave me, and a pretty little watch that my GS gave me. It's only a little Fake diamond one but it's very sparkly and he bought it himself at the school Christmas fair with his own money!

Like Lona, we really don't do presents for adults these days. But OH got me a special hand-crafted knife from a craft fair- special for wild mushroom picking, with a brush at one end, and a curved blade with a serrated area on the outside of the blade to scrape soil from stems. Great.

OH and dd1 from UK sent use a Christmas cake and some Christmas puds- from Fortnum and Mason, lol.

A caravan driving course - and getting up at 3.30 am today to take over and look after DGS1, aged 12 weeks. (He believes sleeping is a waste of time.)

Our son and daughter and their families were with us for a few days - the best gift anyone could have. They'd gathered up all sorts of old bits of gold - broken chains, old rings and such like, much of it belonging to my lovely (late) mum, and had it made into a bangle for me! I felt emotional all day! Blessed indeed! smile

A lovely black faux fur coat from hubby, I`ve lost a fair bit of weight lately, and was chuffed to find that it fits a treat, despite being a size 22, rather than the 26 or 28 I used to buy!

ninathenana Thu 26-Dec-13 17:42:49

That's brilliant glamma I hope she continues to make a good recovery
Humbert hope it's good news

I can't match your heart warming stories. I did get a lovely framed photo of DGS together which brought a tear to my eye.

DH is useless at surprises, he always asks what I want. Yesterday for only the second time in the 40+ yrs I've known him he surprised me with a pair of gold earrings tchsmile

Lona Thu 26-Dec-13 15:06:21

Fingers crossed Humbertbear sunshine

It's great to see that Grans treasure the little things, or at least the free things, in life. My best present may still be to come. my youngest GD had grommets fitted on Monday and we are all now hoping that she will be able to hear clearly and start talking. I am seeing her tomorrow, so will let you know.

glammanana Thu 26-Dec-13 14:35:02

Notso Thu 26-Dec-13 12:55:30

whenim64 Thu 26-Dec-13 12:41:21

My son gave me the Rolling Stones CD of their concert in Hyde Park earlier this year. He knows anything by the Stones always goes down well. I had some fabulous presents - books, DVDs, smellies, chocolates, and a terracotta chicken brick amongst them.

FaceTime with my grandsons overseas - the little one wearing a spiderman onesie and the older one demonstrating his new robot toy. So cute. (gulp)

Flowerofthewest Thu 26-Dec-13 12:04:05

A DAB retro radio. Love it, after my bemoaning the fact that I didn't have a radio shaped box under tree I nearly got two. That evening my son came in from work and I said in a pathetic voice 'Ther's no digital retro radio shaped box under the tree!!! sad face' The next day he wandered all around Cambridge to find me one. He thought I was dropping a hint, bless him, he has already paid for his dad and I to have a few days away in Jan.

My youngest DD gave me a lovely throw and a plain cushion with an IOU applique. (she's a crafter)

Hope you all had a lovely time.

Agus Thu 26-Dec-13 10:26:41

A cushion from my GDs which says 'K.... & L... Love Granny to the moon and back', Whenever they stay over at ours, after goodnight kisses I always say, guess how much I love you? I know my DD obviously organised this and that gives the gift extra meaning.

AlieOxon Thu 26-Dec-13 09:45:33

Yes, feeling together with my family again after years of feeling pushed out - this the result of my daughter's new boyfriend!

(But I did get a sausage-making machine.....)
