Mine was a plastic box from Poundland . The sort that has lots of little sections for sorting screws and a tight fitting lid. My husband made a special trip out to buy it for me after I had told him I had just seen a tip about using one as a paint palette.

A whole week of being spoilt by my family but a big surprise was DS1 and family's present of a 7" tablet which is proving to be great fun and a terrible time-waster.

jeanie99 How true that is - our grandchildren are our best presents!

My daughter presented us with a beautiful baby boy in October, our first grandchild, there is nothing that can beat that.

My five year old grandson's first ever school tea towel, with all his class's hilarious self portraits. Priceless!

Hearing how delighted my grandson in America is with our present. A year's worth of activities at their local Sports Center, which caters for children who have difficulty in socialising.

Our favourite gift was a calendar from the grandchildren. It contains a family photo for each new month. tchsmile

Mishap; oh dear. if you bump into any of them you'll have to do the classic joke thing of 'I didn't recognise you with your clothes on' [ which they will all be sick and tired of by the end of the year!]

Not the best present I have ever had, although nice enough, but certainly the most surprising one. Shortly before Christmas my landlord spent a couple of hours one afternoon spraying the weeds in the drive – no that wasn't the present. When she had gone we found a box wrapped in Christmas paper on the doorstep. It contained 1.5 kg of luxury biscuits – and they are pretty luxurious too. I thought that was extraordinarily friendly. I didn't even send a Christmas card to any of my tenants in the UK. tchblush

DVDs Seasons 1 and 2 of Borgen. I love it on two levels - the political stories 'cos I've been involved in politics a long time, and the Danish language which I try to understand from my knowledge of Yorkshire dialect (heavy Norse influence) and German.

Oh and of course there's those gorgeous Danes..... If I'd lived there as a young 'un I'd have been a VERY naughty girl!!!

I thought I had had all my presents and very nice they were too. Suddenly, today when DD2 returned from Christmas with the in-laws, DH and I were presented with - tum, te, te, TUM - 2 Tickets for the closing ceremony at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in August. I knew the DDs had applied but they kidded on they had been unsuccessful in the draw In fact they got 4 tickets so they will be coming with us grin. For once I really am 'Over the moon '. [X] , < nearest I can get to the big Saltire I will be taking along to wave. Whoopee Doo grin grin

My two lovely daughters organising a surprise family meal for my 60th and arranging for my Dad, Sisters and all their families to come up to Norfolk just before Christmas (my Birthday is 23rd).

It was so good to be all together for the first time in years

A calendar of local men naked! - hmm - not sure what to do with it, but it will have to be displayed to avoid giving offence to the giver.

Father Christmas left a stocking on my doorstep. It included a Memory Game card pack. When I thanked No. 3 Daughter, she said, "Well it was either that or Old Maid".
Also in stocking: big magnifying glass, bottle of Matey, walnut whips, a book, a local magazine, Christmas socks, a Knitting Nancy, Christmas tissues, pyjamas, slippers, a cracker, hand warmers, a scented candle, a sew-on Pug patch.
They also gave me dinner, cooked by excellent cook son in law.
Nos 1 and 2 came a long way, No 4 hosted Boxing Day lunch for 14 despite having tonsillitis and two toddlers ( she's the only one who can fit us all in)

Forgot hamper from my DD. A lovely old wicker hamper filled with goodies for us both. Everything we love and enjoy. A lovely thought.

Gosh thats a really hard one as I had so many that I really love....I guess the most practical one was my new sat nav - since my old one died I have had to use the old fashioned way of maps - not easy when driving so when hubby bought me this I was pretty pleased and relieved.....for pampering I guess the very large bottle of Baileys Orange and also the gorgeous smellies of which I had quite a few! Have had loads of soaks in the bath since to try them all out! lol tchsmile

AlieOxon Fri 27-Dec-13 10:10:53

Sunseeker - just enjoy it!

AlieOxon Fri 27-Dec-13 10:08:04

Dunno what my presents say about my image....?

Sausage making machine
Light workmate from B&Q
Electric blanket
Song books
'Tenko' first series DVDs
and no less than 3 boxes of Elizabeth Shaw mint crisps

sunseeker Fri 27-Dec-13 09:58:36

I was happy with all my presents but have decided I need to rethink my image. I received 2 bottles of red wine, 2 bottles of sparkling rose, 1 bottle of champagne, 4 boxes of chocolates and perfume. It appears that all my friends see me as a smelly fat drunk tchblush

janeainsworth Fri 27-Dec-13 08:48:38

My 3 DCs clubbed together to get me a Kindle Paperwhite to facilitate my reading while we're on our travels.
And MrA, very unusually, spotted a small shiny object in a jeweller's in Newcastle that he thought I might like and bought it tchshock

My best present was a lovely little silver handbag pen with my initials engraved on it. It is from Tiffanys and I dropped a very big hint to get it.
