Not a lot wrong with Kitkats!! tchgrin

JessM Sun 29-Dec-13 19:40:33

DH just returned from MIL's. SILs having received the "we're not doing pressies this year we are broke so please don't buy for us either" message sent us a very nice box of hotel chocolat (he's put them on top of the cupboards, at my request so I don't eat them all at once) and a jokey tin of really crap confectionery - need it like the proverbial. kitkat and stuff like that. (revenge for us opting out of pressie fest?)
Maybe if I put them in the car and we can eat them if we go on a walk somewhere....

JessM def. a tchgrin !!

Sadly, only the things in the freezer get labelled, the ones in the fridge remain (or should!) a wonderful "pick & mix" for those moments when I just sort of, oh you know, "fancy something"

PS I must confess to complete fabrication re. the trifle tchsad However, I do dream of it.

In years gone by, when with exdh, part of Christmas Eve was spent preparing THE trifle, and I always had a bowlful for breakfast on Boxing Day (tchblush)

My beloved Mr P, bless him doesn't really like puddings, so, sadly we are a trifle free zone (SOB!)

He also says he doesn't really like chocolates and sweets, so how come my personal stash of Irish Cream Truffles seems to have been raided? Maurice is smart, but not that smart.

(Narrows eyes suspiciously at Mr P, who is adopting an innocent posture whilst slicing a quiche Lorraine.................)

Or " a minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips?

What might be written phoenix? "Hands off I have plans for this stuffing" ?

Anne58 Sat 28-Dec-13 15:55:46

A whiteboard pen works well on Tupperware type containers, washes off again too. Mr P uses masking tape around foil wrapped items, then writes on it.

Yes, phoenix I had totally forgotten that was what Bags had called UFOs. I naturally rely on memory which has long gone.

Mysterious presents all glitter and squidgy
Favourite nibbles stacked up in the fridgy
Peeling the veggies
While cooking I sing
These are a few of my favourite things

Negronis in glasses, the pistachios handy
Salmon and caviare, champagne and brandy
Get out the ham and release from its strings
These are a few of my favourite....etc

Pot plants and bathsalts and bunches of roses
Cuddles for Gwanny and runny red noses
Others attcking the dishes with zing
These are a few of my favourite things

When the dog sicks
When the babe cries
When they go - I'm sad
But simply remember my favourite things....
And then I don't feel so bad

(Cue Brendan and me walzing round the kitchen) tchgrin

Charleygirl that is what someone (I think it was bags but could be wrong) referred to as UFO's. Unidentified Frozen Objects.

KatyK Fri 27-Dec-13 23:26:19

Erm.....

Ana Fri 27-Dec-13 22:12:40

feetlbaum - no it's not! You don't usually have to pry the lid off a soup can with a screwdriver...tchhmm

KatyK Fri 27-Dec-13 22:09:20

Clever Phoenix!

feetlebaum Fri 27-Dec-13 21:59:43

It's like when you heat a can that has lost its label, and finish up with paint for supper...

glassortwo Fri 27-Dec-13 21:53:35

tchgrin

Charleygirl Fri 27-Dec-13 21:25:42

That could easily be my freezer song. I have a habit of wrapping up food in silver foil, freezing it and totally forgetting what is in it so when it comes to choosing a supper, I frequently get a nasty shock and have to have another magic dip.

Mishap Fri 27-Dec-13 20:32:52

Now there's a job for you! - send your lyrics to Victoria Wood!

Anne58 Fri 27-Dec-13 19:33:09

Nor Julie Andrews, for that matter, but still, apologies to all parties.

The Post Christmas Fridge Song, draft 1.

Silver foil parcels that lurk within fridges
Some that are smooth, and then others with ridges
Oh how to guess at what might be within,
Could it be some of my favourite things?

(dum dum, dum dum, etc, too early for the middle eight, another verse first)

Left over stuffing with chestnuts and spices,
Yesterdays trifle, oh how it entices!
Beautiful Stilton, a cheese fit for Kings!
These are a few of my favourite things!

(middle eight, thank you for your patience)

Now unwrapping! Disappointment! Feel like I've been had!
Mr P has been eating my favourite things,
I think I might go quite mad!
