Bubble Wrap Awareness Day

on Monday 27 January 2014?

Apparently, if you wrap yourself in thirty-nine layers of it, you can safely throw yourself out of a sixth floor window. Stephen Fry said so on QI. He also said "Don't do this at home". Don't suppose most of us have a sixth floor even if we have enough bubble wrap.

I'm next jumping into the bubble wrap mountain.

I'd like to join in the diving.

Also, I'm wondering if bubble wrap could be interesting in a 'romantic' setting.

Mais non! Le jour de l'emballage à bulles. How can I celebrate alone?

janerowena Sun 12-Jan-14 17:53:18

I find it impossible to throw any of it away. It's an addiction. I do use it a lot in the greenhouses, but I still hang on to ridiculous scraps of it from packaging. So I am very aware of it, it's all over my house in small heaps as well as in large rolls in the greenhouses.

I was bubble wrap aware on Friday (does that count?) when I went to my ds's house and there was a large roll of it standing in the kitchen!

Do you think he knows something that we don't? hmm

LizG Sun 12-Jan-14 15:16:28

grin that too probably!

Galen Sun 12-Jan-14 15:13:37

And I thought you were suffering from wind!hmm

LizG Sun 12-Jan-14 15:12:27

hmm shockI am late coming onto the site and what do I find but people arranging celebrations without me. Well sorry to burst all your bubbles in one fell swoop but the term is Bubble Awareness not Bubble Appreciation which suggests a certain environmental aspect.

So everyone I suggest we all put our collections of the stuff in a massive heap then take turns diving on it. That way we can utilise the environmentally unsound wrapping before we/it gets carted away.

My idea, I'm going first. 1.....2.....3..... (sound of gunfirelike pops off) grin

I wasn't going to be able to join in but have bought a new table lamp this morning and they have wrapped it in bubble wrap - with big bubbles! grin

Soutra Sun 12-Jan-14 14:34:50

Thanks Guys!! Happy now smile

(Just as well you couldn't think of an "appropriate" comment Newist - it might have been unrepeatable!)

newist Sun 12-Jan-14 14:27:12

Soutra please don't sniff, by the time I read your very good pun, to pop in the corner, I was slightly worse for wear, having drunk a bit too much, my brain by then, could not think of an appropriate comment grin

Nelliemoser Sun 12-Jan-14 13:57:43

Soutra Just so you don't feel ignored, I have just seen it. grin grin Does that make you feel better. wink

Galen Sun 12-Jan-14 13:52:41

Groan!

Soutra Sun 12-Jan-14 13:28:47

sad sniff! I know it was the feeblest and most groan-worthy pun..... but did nobody notice OR as my Dad used to say was it "treated with the contempt it deserved"? sad

soop Sun 12-Jan-14 13:24:18

HAPPY birthday Mr newist wine cupcake grin

newist Sun 12-Jan-14 13:18:42

You are all the most creative and dare I say, waccy people I have ever had the pleasure of being able to communicate with, You lift my spirits on this horrid windy rainy day, To add to my joy, Mr Newist is 70 today so in spite of the gales, I forced asked him to put balloons and streamers out side, so to keep him warm whilst he did this small task I, with great concern for his well being, put Bubble Wrap under his hat to keep him warm

janerowena Sun 12-Jan-14 12:57:00

I have a whole gigantic roll in a greenhouse, so just ask if any of you need samples! It was so cold last night I am thinking several new sets of bubblewrap curtains would be a brilliant celebration of the day, thanks for the idea newist!

Galen Sun 12-Jan-14 12:41:19

I'm busy lining my coffin with it. I wouldn't want my shoulder dislocated when they were carrying me out!hmm

soop Sun 12-Jan-14 12:34:52

I've fashioned a bikini out of bubble wrap for me...and a sporran for MacSporran. wink

thatbags Sun 12-Jan-14 10:54:26

Newist, I lurve your dress.

thatbags Sun 12-Jan-14 10:53:55

Roll a largish piece up and then twist it. Bliss smile

annodomini Sun 12-Jan-14 10:43:47

Popping bubble wrap was ideal physio for me after I'd had a trapeziectomy op (on the joint below the thumb) and, after 6 weeks of immobility, had to strengthen my grip.

bikergran Sun 12-Jan-14 10:18:12

GS loves!! popping the bubble wrap smile cheaper than lego lol...and we have it in our £1 shop smile
