Ear piercing

I had never thought of it before - but I love earrings and have loads of small studs that i never wear anymore. It's tempting me to have another piercing so that I could wear a small stud at the top and dangly ones lower down. I have very thick long curly hair so I have to wear long earrings so that they can be seen.

I had mine done when I was 25, so did my siters. We were too scared of what my father would say before then. I let my daughter have hers done when she was 14, 14 years ago but I can remember it as if it was yesterday. I had a hint ftom a friend that she was planning to get them done without telling me, so i thought it would be better to take her somewhere reputable and get to choose her some decent small gold studs, rather than have her ending up looking like a <shan'tusetheword>.

She has recently posted on her facebook page that pierced anythings on young children are child abuse, so my thoughts on the subject must have sunk in. She saw my face many years ago when a friend's two year old appeared in diamond studs, although the friend luckily didn't notice. I could have cried.

What about circumcision indeed Notso! - unquestionably child abuse, and the continuation of the practice is shameful - tolerance of religious minorities gone mad.

Go for it oldcelt. I used to have 2 holes in both lower lobes, but only use one of them currently. When I was 50, I had a single stud in the top of my ear, it was a bit ouch, but I loved it. I let it heal over though.
I wasn't allowed to have my ears pierced (it was 'common') and got them done at 18. I love wearing ear rings. My daughters had theirs done at about age 9, after years of repeated requests, which I'd denied. They only wore tiny studs and I am quite sure it did no harm.

My mother had her ears pierced as a baby with a needle and cotton!!!! That was at the beginning of the last century though! I had to wait till I was 16 before being allowed to have mine pierced and went to an optician to have them done. They were often done because it was thought to improve your eyesight with the gold through the ear.
I have worn ear rings all the time since having them done but mainly gold or pearl studs. There are such beautiful or fun drop ear rings now but I rarely wear them as I feel they do not suit me.

Why not! Is that getting two ear piercings in each ear on are you going for a first piercing in your currently unpierced ear so you are in balance?

No female in my family have ever had their ears pierced, or any other part of their anatomy come to think of it.

Had mine pierced once and they would not heal - not a pleasant memory - never again! It resulted in my DDs deciding they would never have theirs done.

I regard the piercing of little babies' ears as child abuse - gross!

But if you are a grown adult and you want to do it, then go for it!!

nonu a woman I come into contact with through work must be in her mid-fifties and she wears loads of earrings, and she has multicoloured dreadlocks and she wears very colourful clothes, always with boots. She's a pretty stunning woman and she looks great.

for my 50 th but they have closed must go and have them done again as I have some lovely ear rings Go for it

Must say that I agree with GA's point about making daughters (and sons for that matter!) wait until 16.

My ex sister in law had her daughters ears pierced at 6 months! Yuk!

My children were shocked, but I think rather delighted to discover that their father had his ear pierced in his teens. I still have his original earring.
I had my ears pierced when I was thirty and that was the right time for me. I made my daughters wait until they were sixteen and it was a rite of passage for them on their birthdays.

I have 2 holes in each ear, had them for over 30 years, both in the lower part of the lobe, although I haven't worn earrings in the upper holes for yonks!

One of the therapists where I go for my eyebrow waxing has a piercing in that bit of your ear that sort of comes out from your face (oh hell, that sounds completely daft, no doubt there is a proper name for it, it's sort of gristly oh, you know what I mean!) and she has a small aquamarine stud in it, it looks lovely. Some years ago I did think about getting one done myself, but she did say that it hurt quite a bit when she had it done, so somehow I never got round to it!

Why would any one have several piercing done up the ear?
Presumably we are talking of mature women , sounds a bit daft and chavy to me !

I have three piercings in the lobe either side and one at the top and just have different coloured studs in and I love them. I have never had any problems and I am 61yrs young. If you have them done, just make sure you look after the piercings properly and hopefully you shouldn't have a problem oldcelt

oldcelt some years ago I had a second piercing made in one ear only (what was I thinking) but it hurt (I have small earlobes and it was on a harder part of the ear) so it didn't last.

I'm a bit nervous of getting 'elongated piercing tracts' so I very seldom wear dangly earrings, and never ever heavy ones.

I think only if you have it done on the thin area near the top. Mine were only a couple of mms from the original piercings and weren't any more painful.

Are you having it further up the ear lobe? It's a bit more painful there isn't it??

I have never had my ears pierced but have always wanted to. I'm sure lovely earrings would make my neck look more elegant! That's what trinney and Susanna says anyway.

I had my second ear piercing when I was about 50, but I couldn't be bothered keeping earrings in after a couple of years so I think they've probably healed up now. I just wear one pair now.

Oh go for it! If you've already got one lot, it won't make much difference.
