I volunteer for the Nspcc schools service and we were at a conference with Esther Rantzen yesterday . Esther also spoke a little about Silverline. She was very enthusiastic and said the calls are increasing every week. There was a jump in the number of calls over the Christmas period from people who were alone so they probably need all the help they can get smile

I thought about volunteering for Silverline too Mishap as my current volunteering appears to be going decidedly pear-shaped. sad I was put off, though, by the fact that it appears you ring the people from your own home.

When I did that for VS they people were often not in at a time when I was available to call them and it became very frustrating. Presumably there would be more chance that they would be at home if they had contacted Silverline.

The other thing that meant it wasn't what I was looking for, is that in my current role I get to meet lots of people, and that didn't seem to be the case with Silverline.

I would be interested in other people's experiences and how you get on if you do volunteer.

I notice that Silverline is linked into Gransnet now, which seems a sensible idea. You get to it by going to the Silverline website and clicking on "forums".
It basically seems to take you here, with an extra Silverline button along the top.

I was thinking of volunteering and wondered whether any Gransnetters have already done so or know anyone who has; it would be interesting to hear their experiences.
