Slaughter of Dolphins in Japan

Lovely poem nigglynellie. I would love to see a world where all animals were left to live their lives unmolested by humans. Not a popular view, I know, but one that is dear to my heart.

Really nice to have your comments. I know there is little WE can do to stop this awful business, as you say Flower, everything to do with MONEY and NOTHING to do with tradition. As I've got older I have watched with despair at the cruelty's of the world in general both to animals and to people, knowledge obviously made so much more accessible with the internet, and all anyone can do is sign petitions and make as loud a noise as possible. For some reason cruelty to the dolphins particularly touched me, but of course there are so many many more. I would just like to share with you this poem:

It would ring the bells of heaven,
It's loudest peal for years,
If the Parson lost his senses,
And the people came to theirs,
And he and they together knelt down with angry prayers,
For tamed and shabby tigers,
For dancing dogs and bears,
For wretched blind pit ponies,
And for little hunted hares.

I do follow the reports on FB Nigglynellie and have signed and forwarded requests for others to sign the petition to help stop this barbaric behaviour by so called human beings. I feel it is purely greed and nothing at all to do with culture or tradition which is their excuse.

nigglynellie it is a subject I care very much about. I'm just not sure what we can do about it. There is so much inhumanity to animals and to people in the world. Have you read any suggestions of what we might be able to do nigglynellie? As Jess said, it would be difficult to boycott all Japanese goods. I feel much the same about China and Chinese goods.

Please don't be put off posting. I have started threads that went nowhere, sometimes it's just that other threads are very active at the time or for no reason in particular. To be honest, I start very few threads and I admire those who are confident enough to do so - after all, if no-one ever started threads we'd never have anything to talk about.

Oh well. obviously not a subject of any interest to anyone. disappointed, but not that surprised. Won't bother to post again.

Thanks JessM, I think you are right, posts do get overlooked. Boycotting Japanese goods? good idea in theory, less easy in practice, or at least to the extent of making a difference. I've read that some high profile people are getting involved, so lets hope and pray that they can influence the powers that be to outlaw this dreadful 'tradition'?!!

Sometimes posts just get missed by people nigglynellie. I wonder what would happen if there was an organised boycott of Japanese cars and consumer goods?

What a pity no one has commented on this. Perhaps I'm being neurotic to care so deeply for what I perceive as a dreadful business, or perhaps from the comfort of our cosy world it simply doesn't matter.
