Music for old Rockers !

I adore Paulo Nutini, his music is playful.

Nankate are you aware of lastfm.com ? My kids put me on to it, and every song you listen to goes into building your own personal radio playlist. It of course also suggests things you may like - "if you listen to so-and-so, you may also like so-and-so" - and I've discovered many more artists I like listening to that way.

At the moment I am immersed in "country and western" - all the stuff I loved and couldn't admit to listening to when I was a teenager because it was "uncool". Now I hear all the "old rockers" paying tribute to C&W as being a main influence (e.g. Neil Young does).

A great new female artist in this genre is Caitlin Rose.

I'll check out Quinn Sullivan (We need a music note emoticon).

We have been known to play our own version of "name that tune" using you tube! Just choose a song, find it and turn it off PDQ after the intro.

Although Blues is my favourite style of music I do enjoy C & W, especially Dolly Parton - always great words to her songs.

I've just spent about an hour on youtube searching for favourites.
I love Blues too, and my favourite radio channel is Jazzfm, Sunday 5pm David Freeman Blues and Boogie.

Can't beat a live band - if anyone likes bluegrass/ country with a youthful band writing their own material The Stray Birds are now on tour and a lovely evening of entertainment. Saw them last night (how lucky am i - 2 whole minutes to walk to the venue) .If you like Nanci Griffith you'll like this.

I love bluegrass; currently playing Alison Krauss. Think bands like the Mumfords and the Lumineers owe a lot to them! Currently on order Airborne Toxic Event [as recommended by my doctor; he can't cure my mutant foot but he always gives me some good tips on good music to buy!]. Radio 6 is great for music [can't believe they almost shut it down sad]]. Always go back to listening to Tom Petty and Neil Young [his last couple of albums have been great]. BBC4 on Friday night is always good for music; devoted to the Everly Brothers this week. I've just re sorted my cd's so am working my way through cd's that I'd forgotten I'd got [not to mention three drawers full of audio tapes that aren't in order which is a bit like a 'lucky dip' .

Yep, www.last.fm/ is free, and entirely life changing

I don't pay for Spotify but you have to endure a few adverts. I can always find what I want on it though. I prefer it to Lastfm. I've just found The Stray Birds on it. I love a bit of bluegrass.

I love live music and go to as many of my favourite Runrig gigs as I can. I also belong to our local folk club, Love Show of Hands, Dougie McClean, absolutely love love love Neil Young, Fishermans' Friends I could go on for ever .

Don't laugh - have you heard of Forgotify, which only streams music that has never been played on Spotify. True! Google it!

We go to quite a few Tribute bands and if you close your eyes you can imagine you are a teenager again !

I have never understood why Country music was considered 'uncool' by the average teenage twerp - after all, what else was the egregious Mr Presley but a Country performer?

Flower - I love the Fishermans' Friends too. A few years ago we had a holiday in Port Isaac. We had never really heard of the place but we love Cornwall. During our week there, not only did we watch Martin Clunes & Co filming Doc Martin (we had no idea it was filmed there when we booked) but one evening we were sitting outside a pub on the beach when the Fishermans' Friends set up their equipment and gave us a fabulous free concert on the beach. This was before they were famous of course

I think they gave up touring when one of them [and their manager] were killed in an accident at a gig. I've recently found out that an old flame is locations manager for Doc Marten .

Martin Clunes was lovely - posing for pics and signing autographs between filming.

Last saw Fishermans' Friends in St Albans last year, then next night Trevor and the tour manager were sadly killed. They have begun to recover now and hopefully will gig again soon.

I get my music fix by being a member of Rock Choir where I can sing, have fun, socialise, and learn to sing new and often stretching 4 or (ocassionally) 6 part harmonies. Oh yes, and moves to the music too - it can be a total workout.

I 'd say that my weekly rehearsals where I have a good sing are more uplifting than a good bra! And then in between times there are the words/songs to practise.

I don't listen to music while I'm on the computer, but play a wide variety of types and tracks when busy in the kitchen - have to pretend to go there & do something sometimes, so a spot of loud music goes on to let him upstairs busy at work (!) in his study know that food might be in the offing.

I love Country Music feetlebaum as I was brought up on it and have loved it ever since. I have been fortunate enough to have seen some of the all time greats over the years including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferon, Don Williams, The Eagles, Garth Brooks, Emmylou Harris .......... I could go on and on. Really looking forward to seeing Brad Paisley in March which is a dream come true.

Anyone been to see Dreamboats and Petticoats? Our local theatre will be full of people of 'a certain age' with just the odd youngster as well. It will be our third time when we go next!

Nonnie - That show is coming here to Brum again. I have often thought it might be my kind of thing. I take it you would recommend it?

Without a doubt Katy. If it wasn't coming to our local theatre I would book it in Brum. You will know the songs (no story really) and find your feet tapping. The only problem is you will have one of the songs in your head for days afterwards!

Sounds good to me Nonnie. I have a CD Dreamboats and Petticoats which is great. I have seen the musical Buddy 5 times. Buddy Holly was slightly before my time and I hadn't really taken much notice of his songs (silly me). I booked tickets for DH's birthday one year and it was fantastic - people dancing in the aisles, in the boxes etc. Those songs were in my head for days afterwards too.
