Adopt a granny/mummy

Hi I started another thread about my mother in law being a headache and I've thought of an idea. I'm incredibly lonely my mum isn't around, my dad lives 200 miles away and he isn't particularly supportive. I thought me and my MIL would be very good friends but she is just critical of me and isn't interested in being my friend, I would really like to adopt a granny for my daughter and a mother figure for me, I would like to go on walks, ask for advice, cooking, shopping, play days with my daughter etc. Do any of you have any idea of schemes that do this?

I think that there was a thread about this previously and CRB checks etc raised their ugly head.

Not having had children of my own and now living alone with no immediate family I think the idea of "adopt a granny" is a good one but as Charleygirl said the cost of CRB checks and such like would probably make this a non starter.

Why would you need a CRB check just to go out for a walk or a coffee with a friend, surely you are not setting yourself up as a childminder !!
I have a lot of youngsters and their families from my Church often come here for playdates with my DGS, a lot of them are away from home with no help with the little ones and although I never look after them alone there has never been the need to get CRB checks just to go and visit a friend.
seems a bit like scaremongering to me. We are very strict with checks here but it has never been an issue.

Have a look on the notice board at your library. Here we have a Seashells Children's Centre. Maybe you do too or something similar. They run playgroups, nurseries and all sorts of child based activities. They also organise volunteers who are either nannies or mums of school age children to visit/befriend young families.
