grin

Digestive biscuit dunking is more in our line!

goldengirl Sun 09-Feb-14 16:59:05

Not only do they think we are boring some of them think we actually don't exist! Perhaps we are invisible after all as per another thread.
As an aside: I have to say I don't like some of the choices of names. Very behind- the-bike sheds hmm

Ana Sun 09-Feb-14 16:35:52

notyetpastit is definitely one of us! grin

Anne58 Sun 09-Feb-14 16:02:44

Humph! As I may have said before, just because we don't ask questions about willy dunking.....................

baubles Sun 09-Feb-14 14:04:33

I'm fairly sure that if my DD does post on Mumsnet (I know she reads it) she wouldn't have posted on that thread since I don't fit the profile grin

I would have loved Mumsnet when my children were little. Very useful in many areas. smile

annodomini Sun 09-Feb-14 13:42:27

I guess it's a good place for the kids to let off steam! I wonder what I would have said in my 30s, if I could be sure my mother wasn't reading it. wink

Galen Sun 09-Feb-14 13:22:40

Ok, fess up! Which of you I is Morecatsthankids?

Dragonfly1 Sun 09-Feb-14 12:59:27

Thing is, it seems that it's often the over-fifties on the thread who poke fun. Then go on about how 'young' they are. That quote about protesting too much springs to mind. Funny!

margaretm74 Sun 09-Feb-14 12:50:34

Should we just leave them in peace before they start infiltrating us?

lucyinthesky Sun 09-Feb-14 12:49:25

Just joined but with a username my DD1 will not guess lol and read quite a few more than just 'a few posts' on that particular thread. Seems to me that there are a lot of older Mums on there as well as some Mums (like us) who are now grandmothers too.

Mamie - no I didn't know it was a joke and I agree with LizG and
Grannyactivist, who has it spot on.

merlotgran Sun 09-Feb-14 12:44:42

I would have loved something like Mumsnet when I was bringing up three children in an isolated farmhouse. I would probably have also poked fun at Gransnet because being over fifty would have felt like a million miles away.

Everything is just a rite of passage.

grannyactivist Sun 09-Feb-14 12:43:37

Each to their own I say. I've visited t'other site and found some warmhearted, caring responses on threads, but also the opposite with posters being belittled, ridiculed and challenged in very unhelpful ways. I did recommend the site to activistdaughter to have a look, but she'd rather get her advice from me (doesn't always take it). grin She found the swearing on MN to be excessive and unnecessary - as do I.
I am glad that MN exists though because there do seem to be all sorts of posters and therefore a range of life experiences to share, and not all young mums have people in 'real life' they can open up to.

Mamie Sun 09-Feb-14 12:43:22

Indeed LizG, but I didn't read it as a thread that was devoted to running down Gransnet when I originally read it and I did find it funny.
I just find it a bit ironic that anyone would criticise Mumsnet for having a narrow view of Gransnet and then go on to condemn the whole of Mumsnet on the basis of having read a few posts. hmm

LizG Sun 09-Feb-14 12:32:10

But I find them both funny grin

LizG Sun 09-Feb-14 12:30:31

If my daughters are out there on Mumsnet which they may well be then I am afraid I should prefer to let them chat their way as long as we can do likewise. To have a complete thread running down Gransnet seems rather excessive and it has been going on for some time. It was bound to bring about a retaliation ( this thread). By the way mamie fora and Galen's comment were also jokes; we just don't all have the same sense of humour.

margaretm74 Sun 09-Feb-14 12:16:51

Mamie, yes have now read part of the thread, and it is interesting

Flowerofthewest Sun 09-Feb-14 12:06:47

Dragonfly grin love the 'jingled' bit, should be in the OED.

Pathetic, boring and sedate creatures they are. They obviously do not know us. We have been there and got the millions of t-shirts.

margaretm74 Sun 09-Feb-14 12:02:39

Sounds like a sub-culture, but they are our DDs and DiLs (well someone's anyway)

Mamie Sun 09-Feb-14 12:01:07

Lucy, I take it you got the fact the one about the swingers' club was a joke. grin
There are some threads devoted to the interests of the very wealthy, how to get into top public schools etc, which make quite entertaining reading from time to time. The point is that there are hundreds of threads on all sorts of things; Mumsnet has a huge membership. There are lots that I just dismiss because they are not relevant to me (just like on here), but plenty of interest if you want to look for it.

lucyinthesky Sun 09-Feb-14 11:46:44

Recent thread on Mumsnet include 'What does one wear to a swingers club?' and apparently there was one where it illustrated that many mumsnetters chose their partners based on what they earned! Based on some of their threads then maybe we need to spice things up on Gransnet wink

Mamie Sun 09-Feb-14 11:45:05

I think I posted a link to this bit of the thread before, but nobody was interested. sad

I love discussions about language, though.

Mamie Sun 09-Feb-14 11:41:35

I probably don't need to point out to you that it is a joke, Galen. smile
This thread is brilliant. I learnt a huge amount

whenim64 Sun 09-Feb-14 11:40:22

Cunning linguist - yes

Not bothered about having a cunnilingus thread, though, Galen A nice cup of tea - definitely! grin

lucyinthesky Sun 09-Feb-14 11:38:18

Just read a few posts and they are so xxxxing patronising! I do sometimes read the threads on Mumsnet for amusement whenI have nothing better to do but most of them are plain boring (except the ones devoted to sex or having affairs lol and they can be plain pathetic!) Hey ho - they are young and have a lot to learn. Now I'm being patronising hmm
